The big story expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 is apparently going to be pretty big, as the leaked download size for Phantom Liberty reveals.

CD Projekt is serious about expansions, as they already showed with The Witcher 3. With Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, the developers released two excellent addons.

Now the first and only story expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 is in the starting blocks, and the recently announced download size shows how extensive it could be.

As big as half the game?

As the Twitter account (PlayStation Game Size) reveals, about 32.9 gigabytes will have to be downloaded for Phantom Liberty on the Playstation 5. To install the main game, a download of about 56 gigabytes is required on the same platform, and the numbers should be similar on Xbox and PC.

Of course, the sheer amount of data of an update says little about the in-game scope for now. Here is a direct comparison with the biggest patches so far:

Update Size
Version 1.3 (perk resets, new minimap, longer video sequences, cosmetic DLC) 32 GB
Version 1.5 (Romance upgrade, improved driving, new quests, improved AI) 41 GB
Version 2.0 (New weapons, new perks, new vehicles, cyberware upgrade, AI upgrade) 33 GB

So from the amount of data alone Phantom Liberty will be more than half the size of the main game, putting it in the same league as the two major updates 1.3 and 1.5.

Unclear if the download will also include the big update 2.0 which will bring many free changes to the main game.

But what’s definitely in the 33 gigabytes, and probably accounts for a lot of the data, is the new content in the expansion, such as:

  • The new Dogtown district
  • The new story chapter with new characters and quests
  • New relic skill tree
  • New items like weapons, clothes, cyberware and vehicles

At the latest on  September 26 we will then know. That’s when Phantom Liberty will be released, and Update 2.0 will have already turned the game upside down by then.

Are you excited to see how good the big expansion of Cyberpunk 2077 will be? Will you get it right at release, wait a little longer, or even play the role-playing game for the first time?
