The action role-playing game is set to become significantly more challenging soon. The focus is on loot, leveling and boss fights.
Blizzard regularly hosts a so-called Campfire Chat. During these streams, the Diablo 4 development team addresses criticisms and comments on the future of the action role-playing game. This was also the case on March 7, 2025, when the topic was the current and future difficulty level.
In the eyes of many fans, Diablo 4 has been far too easy so far. They want a greater challenge – and apparently that’s exactly what they’re getting in the upcoming Season 8.
Difficulty is to be increased
Blizzard is straightforward about several points on how Diablo 4 is going to be more difficult:
- Leveling Phase: Leveling from 1 to 60 should be slower. According to Blizzard, players only need half as long as before to reach the endgame in the current Season 7. With Season 8, the team wants to put the brakes on and adjust the XP curve.
- Loot: On the way to the endgame, significantly fewer legendary items should drop with Season 8. As a result, normal items that you have previously ignored will become significantly more important again.
You can view the complete Campfire Chat for Season 8 here:
- Endgame: The increase in the agony level should result in a significantly higher increase in the general difficulty.
- Bosse: All endgame boss fights will be revised for Season 8. Three new bosses will also be joining the fray, and Belial, the new most powerful villain in the game, threatens to randomly appear and make life difficult for you in the endgame.
When does it start?
You’ll be able to see the difficulty changes for yourself in the week of March 11-18, 2025, when Season 8 lands on the public test server. The final launch of Season 8 is scheduled for April 29, 2025.
So there is plenty of time to discuss the changes with other Diablo fans. As is so often the case, there are many negative comments below the YouTube stream, in addition to a few positive ones.
Many users are annoyed that the leveling phase is being revised instead of focusing solely on the endgame. In addition, the calls for class revisions are very loud, which sounds something like this: finally fix the sorceress instead of dealing with the leveling phase!
. Further points that can be excellently discussed until the start of Season 8:
Why are frogs no longer a sure loot gold mine? Why is the worst class in Path of Exile 2 suddenly the absolute hit? Why is Titan Quest 2, despite many good signs, still one of our problem children in 2025? You can find the answers to all three questions by taking a look at the articles linked above.
