On the consoles it can easily happen to activate the Battle Pass unintentionally. Now even Blizzard is stepping in.
Suddenly getting something that you didn’t want can drive you up the wall. Currently, this is exactly what happens to many Diablo 4 players who unintentionally activate the Premium Battle Pass for Season 1.
This problem recently became the focus of attention when the streamer Rurikhan accidentally activated the Premium Battle Pass with a single click in front of a live audience. The video was shared by Rurikhan on X shortly after (is that how you say it now?), where the post was viewed over 3 million times.
So Blizzard placed the ‘Activate Premium Battle Pass’ button right next to the button you have to constantly press to check your Season Journey.
Guess what happened to me and at least 5 others on my stream. This is straight up Malicious Design. @Diablo pic.twitter.com/99KhTR51ad

Rurikhan even goes so far as to accuse Blizzard of cheating here and considers the design of the menu to be deliberately devious in order to force such oversights. If you switch to the Battle Pass menu on the consoles, for example, you have automatically already selected the button to activate it. Then all it takes is one wrong click to unlock the pass.
Blizzard switches on
Rurikhan’s anger is causing quite a bit of attention right now and a lot of people agree with him that this is misguided design. However, part of truth is that Rurikhan didn’t accidentally buy the Battle Pass with one click
But many believe that Blizzard ensures that money is spent directly through one click and without asking. But that is not the case here. Rurikhan has already purchased the Battle Pass with the purchase of the Ultimate Edition and is simply unlocking it. The reason why the streamer is so upset about it is simply because he wanted to unlock the pass in another season.
Despite this, the huge uproar over the button caused Blizzard to intervene. Global Community Manager Adam Fletcher pointed out in a reply that the team is working on a solution. The first step is to change the automatic selection of the button.
When a UI element is designed to trick you into clicking it, it’s called a “dark pattern.” IMO Blizzard needs to add a confirm button or something if they don’t want to be accused of using dark patterns. Simple “confirm” pop-up would fix this.

What is your opinion on this situation? Do you think the streamer is right to be upset, or is he making the problem bigger than it should be? Have you experienced something similar or can’t understand how something like this can happen at all? What is the best way for Blizzard to deal with this? Drop us your thoughts in the comments!
