Who are the eponymous Immortals and what do they have to do with the PvP mode Cylce of Strife? We’ll tell you!

Have you ever wondered how Diablo Immortal got its name? Then you might be interested to know that the eponymous immortals are especially relevant for the PvP mode in the endgame.

In the so-called Cycle of Strife, the Immortals are in eternal competition with the so-called Shadows: a balancing force that is supposed to ensure that the strongest heroes always take on the role of Saktuario’s eternal guardians.

You can get an atmospheric overview of the conflict in this animated trailer:

Who are the Immortals?

Long ago, the legendary builder Daedessa worried about the strengthening demonic hordes. To oppose them herself would have been foolish, for her talents lay not in combat but in magical blacksmithing.

So she applied all her skills and created the Eternal Crown She presented it to her son Kion, who then attained unimagined power. Following her wishes, he founded a group of Guardians to defend Sanctuary forever against the Searing Hells: The Immortals

In the end-game PvP mode “Cycle of Strife “ the Immortals represent the strongest clan of a season. According to current knowledge, they are given a special appearance and special tasks.

There is also a little render movie about the Immortals in particular:

Why do the shadows seek the Eternal Crown?

Daedessa knew that power could corrupt anyone’s character, even if it was someone as benevolent as her son Kion. So she passed on a heavy burden to her daughter Akeba.

She was to become the eternal shadow of the immortals, ensuring that they would always prove worthy of their task and never fall to their knees before Diablo’s henchmen. She gathered other brave souls around her to constantly test the will of the Guardians.

In terms of actual gameplay, this means that once you have founded your guild, you will initially belong to the shadows. You will have to prove yourself in competition against the other Shadow Clans as well as the current Immortals if you want to one day take the Eternal Crown for yourself

What exactly happens in the Cycle of Strife?

Originally, three modes were planned for the end-game PvP, all under the heading Cycle of Strife. So-called Dark Houses were to form in guilds and fight for the right to challenge the immortals.

The winning group would then face off with thirty warriors against an Immortal elevated to Raid Boss. The victor would then hold the role of the Immortals until the next upstarts appeared.

In their blog entry on the most important findings from the closed beta, however, the developers announced that they would completely revise this system. Instead of having guilds split into subgroups and torn apart in case of victory, in the future, you will be allowed to declare your entire community a Dark Clan and thus participate in the PvP endgame.

If you manage to usurp the Eternal Crown, you all become Immortals together and can recruit up to two other Dark Clans as allies. Once your reign ends, you become a normal guild again.

It is currently unclear whether the raids on the Immortals’ Vault have also fallen victim to these changes. In the Vault Raids, Shadow Clans should be able to undertake raids into the Immortals’ inner sanctum and initially compete against PvE opponents there.

Only if the Immortals noticed the intruders in time would they be able to interfere and expand the whole thing to a PvEvP mixed mode. We will of course keep you posted on further developments.

As always, we hope you have fun playing the action role-playing game! Diablo Immortal is scheduled for release on 02 June 2022 for PC, iOS and Android.
