EA Sports has slipped into the new year anything but clean. On New Year’s Eve, a bug in the new Headliner Event in FIFA 22 Ultimate Team caused trouble.

The headliner promo in FUT 22 was supposed to be a New Year’s Eve banger, but it backfired extraordinarily. Launched at 7pm on Friday, the promotion promised strong cards like Kylian Mbappé with upgrade potential in packs. But for over five hours, two specific players were missing. EA Sports has returned the packs to the disadvantaged because of the faux pas.

The FIFA community went on a rampage because not all headliner cards were available at release and those who opened heaps of packs at launch felt cheated. The following two cards were the focus of the fiery debate for simple reasons: Sevilla FC left-back Marcos Acuña had been shown as a headliner via Twitter, but was not yet available at the start of the promo. Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale was also missing, although he was shown on the loading screen in FUT.

EA Sports, via its FIFA Direct Communication Twitter channel, acknowledged the error the following New Year’s Day. The tweet explains that all players:inside who opened packs with chances to win a headliner between 7pm to 0:30am at the start of the promotion will receive a full refund.

With this, EA Sports has admitted to the gross error regarding the promo event and will pay for the damages of the disadvantaged because they did not have a chance to win certain items. Those affected will still keep the content they have opened so far and will receive the same number of packs again for free as an apology on top. In addition, all players who received a silver card from Aaron Ramsdale during this time can have it exchanged for the new headliner version.
