A piece of news that will especially please fans of the FIFA series: The rumours about a possible crossplay feature seem to be true.
One of the most ardent wishes of the FIFA community seems to come true. The crossplay function could soon raise the game fun of the football simulation to a new level. Although the implementation of the feature, which makes it possible to compete against each other across platforms, has already been confirmed by some insiders for the next installment of the series, EA Sports has not yet announced anything official. Until now.
FIFA 23 with Crossplay? Starting signal already sounded
The publisher posted a Pitch Notes article on its own website late Monday night, announcing a testing period for the near future. EA didn’t announce an exact start date yet, but it was clear that it will start before the release of the next part. In the final phase of FIFA 22 the course should probably be set for a complete integration in FIFA 23.

Social media channels, such as the “FIFA Direct Communication” Twitter channel, will provide information on the availability of the new feature as well as other notices. In addition, a message will also appear within the game. In the meantime, the feature is said to have already been added. A timely start can only be beneficial with regard to the data collection anyway.
Process of the crossplay test
Initially, the function will only be available in the Online Seasons and Online Friendlies modes of the Next-Gen consoles as well as the Stadia version. Ultimate Team mode will be left out for the time being as the company wants to minimise the risk of potential new problems. Due to the popularity of FUT, any mistakes would probably cause a lot of resentment. The development studio does not currently have the necessary credit for serious slip-ups with the community.
However,
EA Sports stresses that the feedback from the test run will provide information on how crossplay can be implemented in future titles. Once the feature is online, it can be activated in the main menu via a new widget in the bottom right corner. Here, players can then manage the corresponding settings and search for friends.
The advantages of crossplay
The news should make fans largely happy, as crossplay is considered one of the reasons for its huge success in other titles such as Fortnite. The feature would make it easier for followers to choose their favourite platform. Preference instead of friend pressure.
There would also be advantages for the eSports scene. Currently, the Global Series takes place exclusively on the PS5, for which there are still bottlenecks due to the global chip shortage. The existence of cross-play would at least improve the situation somewhat and accommodate a large number of ambitious gamers.
