Cover: Who is on the cover?

This year, two players share the cover honour, and a bit of history is made in the process. Kylian Mbappé returns as FIFA 23 cover star, making it the third year in a row he”s been on the wrap?

In addition to Mbappé, the Ultimate Team Edition also features Australian Chelsea striker Sam Kerr. She is the first ever woman to appear as a global cover star. In Australia and New Zealand Kerr gets the box all to herself, in other countries you can order her version of the package exclusively from Amazon.

Gameplay: What gameplay innovations will there be?

Great news for all PC players. With FIFA 23, the PC version draws level with the version for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S and thus gets all the gameplay advantages and innovations. The focus is on the HyperMotion 2 technology, which is supposed to provide especially great realism.

Building on the Hypermotion technology from FIFA 22, the developer has captured two games – one male and one female – to integrate 6,000 new animations into the engine. The end result promises a more precise feel when dribbling and other subtle improvements. Blocking the ball in the penalty area is noticeably less magnetic and goalkeepers behave a little more human.

The biggest innovation is the power shot: Hold L1 and R1 (PlaySation gamepad) or LB and RB (Xbox gamepad) while dribbling towards the goal, and the camera zooms in slightly on your player. At this moment, you press the shoot button and release it again to drive the ball into the goal. However, good timing is needed here, otherwise the ball will miss by miles.

FUT: What”s new in FIFA 23 for Ultimate Team?

FUT is and remains the most popular game mode in the FIFA series. Here you can collect player cards and use them to build the team of your dreams.

In FIFA 23 there are again many important changes and innovations:

  • New chemistry system: The chemistry system is much easier and allows many new combinations, because players no longer have to be placed next to each other. For example, if you have Dortmund”s Süle (centre-back) and Adeyemi (striker) on the pitch, they will still increase your team chemistry to the maximum, as they have the same nationality, league and club.
  • New position system: Due to the new position system, players now have up to three positions in which they can be used. In return, the position change cards are dropped. So those who are annoyed by opponents who have converted their lightning-quick strikers into defensive midfielders can rejoice.
  • FUT Moments: A single player mode with shortened matches based on events from real everyday football.
  • World Cup Mode: The World Cup in Qatar will also be available as a separate game mode within FUT from mid-November.

Career Mode: What”s changing in the popular single player mode?

If you prefer to build your team offline or want to get started as a player yourself – there are also many innovations in the career mode.

  • Playable Highlights: If you don”t want to play the whole game, you can activate the playable highlights. This way, the game throws you into the action several times per game, where you have to successfully complete key scenes.
  • Dynamic Moments: There are many new cutscenes for special events in the life of your coach or player.
  • Transfer Analyses: There is now a rating system for every completed transfer. Good marks are given for bargains, bad marks if you buy bad players too expensive.

Crossplay: Who can play with whom in FIFA 23?

FIFA 23 will offer crossplay for the first time. Players on PC, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 can now compete against each other in almost all modes. The same applies to players on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Licences: Which teams are in it?

As it does every year, FIFA will include thousands of games, hundreds of teams and dozens of leagues. However, there are three big changes.

Juventus Torino: The Old Lady is returning to FIFA 23 after its exclusive deal with Konami”s PES series expired. Piemonte Calcio is therefore history. However, AS Roma, Lazio Roma, SSC Napoli and Atalanta Bergamo will still be missing.

Women”s Leagues: For the first time, there will also be women”s football at club level in FIFA. Two leagues make it into the game: they are the Women”s Super League (England) and the Division 1 Féminine (France).

Russia: Due to the political situation in Ukraine there should be no Russian clubs as well as no national team in the game. These were already removed in FIFA 22 after Russia started the attack on Ukraine which was against international law.

But of course we will regularly update this article with more info about FUT, career mode and more as soon as EA has officially announced them over the next days and weeks.

Will you give FIFA 23 with the new engine a chance again? Or have you written off the series after the disastrous FIFA 22? Tell us in the comments!
