What”s new with the update?

When will the update and world cup mode be released?

The event around the World Cup starts on 9 November, but when exactly the Title Update 3 and with it most of the new modes will be available, the developers do not reveal yet. A start at 7.00 p.m. is likely. Some content, such as the live mode, will be updated again for the start of the World Cup on 20 November and will in part only be available after the start of the tournament.

What about FUT? Most new content for FIFA Ultimate Team will only be available two days later, from 11 November.

What are the new modes?

FIFA World Cup – Kick-off

Just like in the normal kick-off, you can play locally against friends or the computer. However, the 32 national teams qualified for the World Cup are available here, with which you can enter every phase of the tournament – from the group phase to the final. Alternatively, you can also choose national teams that missed out on qualification.

FIFA World Cup – Tournaments

Online Tournaments

If you are looking for a bigger challenge, you can also play an online World Cup against other players. Here you need to win four games in a row to claim the trophy at the end.

FIFA World Cup Live

Here you can replay current and past matchups of the World Cup itself, which of course will be especially relevant from the start of the World Cup on 20 November. Alternatively, you can also take over the previous progress of the real World Cup and a specific team in order to continue playing the tournament yourself from there. There are three different modes:

    • Online Quick Match: Alternatively, you can also play online against friends. In addition, you can play here with national teams that are not part of the World Cup if you All National Teams select. Crossplay between platforms of the same generation is also supported here. How Crossplay works in FIFA 23 you can read in this article:

The Ultimate Team mode of FIFA offers many microtransactions and unfair Pay2Win mechanics. Therefore, it is better to look for your favourite players directly on the FUT transfer market and buy them there for the ingame currency FIFA-Coins instead of spending real money for the randomly filled sets. How absurd FIFA”s Pay2Win is was shown at the beginning of 2019, for example, by the Team of the Year: even in the most expensive card package, the probability of finding one of the strong TOTY players was less than one percent]

    Player cards

Players who are in the squad of the 32 qualified national teams can receive a special player card. From 11 November, you will receive a team of such player cards when you first register. You can earn or buy more of them during the event until 23 December. They expire at the end of the event, but can be traded in for permanent rewards.

    World Cup Swap

(WM player items are indicated by a blue clock, showing that they are only temporarily available in the game)

When you use the player cards, you can complete online and offline tasks, which then grant you so-called exchange tokens. You then exchange the latter for permanent rewards, which include player picks and packs. You can also trade in a permanent star player card for each of the 32 teams.

    Event Completion Rewards

During the event, you can track your progress through 10 reward levels in the World Cup section in FUT from 11 November, unlocking more and more rewards. You can then redeem these from 4 January when the event ends.

(The higher your reward level, the better the rewards at the end of the event.)

    FUT Campaigns

Multiple campaigns and player programmes are also planned for the event, where you can obtain permanent campaign items.

    FIFA World Cup Heroes
