Elias Nerlich and the Eligella Cup got off to a strong start to the FIFA 22 season, with the first edition of the tournament series attracting over 200,000 spectators to their screens.

The Eligella Cup has long been an established institution in FIFA-eSport, the regularly held competition by content creator Elias Nerlich usually enjoys greater popularity in the community than the official EA events. This trend also seems to continue in FIFA 22, the first edition in the new title had impressive viewer numbers.

The premiere in FIFA 22 recorded more than 45,000 viewers on average on Monday evening – in comparison: the official EA SPORTS account for FIFA never got beyond an average of 24,000 in the past almost three months. Twitch was also able to identify more than 200,000 unique viewers for Nerlich. This stream alone brought him a whopping 1,641 new followers, and the FIFA entertainer’s following continues to grow.

Extra class field of participants

The popularity of the Eligella Cup is not least explained by the always prominent field of participants, for the premiere in the new offshoot Nerlich had gathered the FIFA elite of the country: World champion Mohammed ‘MoAuba’ Harkous, prodigy Anders ‘RBLZ_ANDERS’ Vejrgang and VBL champion Umut ‘RBLZ_UMUT’ Gültekin are just three of the big names.

In addition, Sweden’s Olle ‘Ollelito’ Arbin and Dutchman Levi ‘Levi’ de Weerd were also two international heavyweights. However, the victory and with it the prize money of 2,000 euros was ultimately secured by one of the lesser-known players: Lennard ‘xLennyy’ Peters from NEO won the cup, beating ‘MoAuba’ 4:3 in the final.

For Nerlich, it was confirmation that he is still on the right track. His expertise has long been used by large organisations and associations: he was repeatedly called into the studio for the VBL Grand Final 2021, and only recently announced that he would be joining the FOKUS Clan in a big way. The future of FIFA entertainment will be significantly linked to Nerlich and the Eligella Cup.
