The next installment of the role-playing saga has really good news for those who don’t want to spend any more money in single-player games
Pack your silver swords, because exciting news about The Witcher 4 awaits you. CD Projekt has dropped a few tidbits of information about the hotly anticipated next chapter in the saga about Geralt and co.
The Witcher 4 wants to take risks …
First things first: No, The Witcher 4 will not simply be a rehash of The Witcher 3 with fancier graphics. CD Projekt doesn’t want to reinvent the wheel, but it definitely wants to bring a breath of fresh air to the role-playing game series.
Michał Nowakowski, one of the publisher’s two CEOs, assures in the latest annual reportthat the team behind the game is ready to take creative risks and surprise with new gameplay elements and mechanics that have never been seen before in the series:
When it comes to the risks of innovative elements – developing a new game is always a creative risk, especially because we’re trying to push new boundaries and explore new areas; it’s something we haven’t done before.
This is obviously quite broad, but I can’t go into too much detail without talking about the game itself. I guess what I’m saying is that you shouldn’t just expect
The Witcher 3 in a new guise.
The Witcher 4 is currently still in pre-production, but full production is scheduled to start later this year. Over 400 talented developers are already doing their best to bring Polaris
, the project’s code name, to life.
.. but not when it comes to microtransactions
Now let’s move on to a topic that you ll be interested in after the debate about Dragon’s Dogma 2 surely: Microtransactions.
You can breathe a sigh of relief, because CD Projekt Red has made it clear that no microtransactions for single-player content are planned in The Witcher 4. Piotr Nielubowicz, the studio’s CFO, emphasized that such business models do not fit into the world of CD Projekt Red’s single-player titles. This should therefore also mean that the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 and the remake of the first Witcher installment will be spared.
