Epic Games takes a hard line against cheaters, and a Fortnite player from Australia has now learned what happens to cheaters in professional matches.
In e-sports, it has long since ceased to be just about playing. It is a career opportunity, and young, hopeful players try to be among the best – no wonder, with prize money in the millions on offer.
It’s no surprise that some would-be talents try to make life easier for themselves with cheats. What happens to those who get caught is shown by the case of a Fortnite player.
Epic is not kidding around when it comes to cheats
What is the case about? In 2023, Australian player Morgan “RepulseGod” Bamford qualified for the grand final of the Fortnite Championship Series by winning the qualifier.
The big tournament took place in Copenhagen, and players from all over the world wanted to compete for the total of $4 million in prize money. However, RepulseGod and his partner Jace were disqualified by the tournament upon arrival.
As it turns out, Fortnite developer Epic Games has taken legal action against RepulseGod, the outcome and consequences of which were published on X.
Cheating is never a winning strat.
We took legal action against a player who shared their account to unfairly qualify for FNCS. Now they’re banned from Fortnite tournaments forever and their undeserved prize money was donated to charity.

RepulseGod was found to have allowed another player to participate in the qualifier using his account. Account sharing is considered cheating and Epic was not shy about the punishment.
Epic makes an example of him
As punishment for his misconduct, RepulseGod is banned from every Fortnite tournament for life In addition, he had to give back his prize money, which Epic then donated to charity.
For winning the qualifier, there was prize money of $20,000 It is not known whether the repayment also affects other prize money.
But that was not all: Epic’s statement also contains a link to a YouTube video by RepulseGod. In the 20 seconds, only text can be seen that summarizes the situation and also adds an apology to the Fortnite community.
Epic Games is using this career end to make it clear: “Cheating is not a strategy for winning”.
