Epic Games is promoting the Esports component of Battle Royale Fortnite in 2022, with players able to compete in weekly Cups alongside FNCS.
Clearly, a Battle Royale is about winning. However, a Victory Royale becomes even more meaningful when it’s not just about fun and enjoyment, but a title – and some prize money to boot. Here are the upcoming Fortnite tournaments in 2022.
The Esports aspect of Fortnite came to a bit of a halt in recent years due to the pandemic. For example, there was no official LAN tournament for over a year and a half, only online competitions. More specifically, there was a break between February 2020 and DreamHack Anaheim until November 2021, when DreamHack Winter added the title to its repertoire.
Disappointingly, no other official LAN events are currently scheduled either. The eagerly awaited second world championship has also not yet been announced. However, Epic Games announced in a (Blog-Post) in November that tournaments by third-party organisers are possible and suggestions will be accepted. In return, there are regular online cups in which players:inside can try their luck.
Solos
From January onwards, solo players will be able to dig: Grind on the weekends! The Cash Cups and Hype Cups start on 15 January. For the Hype Cups, there will be both an open division and one for aspirants. The top 100 players from the Saturday rounds will be allowed to continue in round two on Sunday.
Players from any platform can participate: PlayStation, Xbox, PC, Mobile and Nintendo Switch.
Duos
However, the Duos will kick off the competitive year. It already starts there on 10 January. There are also the Cash Cups, as well as Duos Hype Cups for aspirants and an open division. The 50 best duos of the first day will advance to the second round. Again, participation is possible from all platforms.
Trios
For Trios, there will be three different Hype Cups every Friday from 17 January: champion, contender and an open division. The Trios Cups will consist of one round only. Here, too, participation is possible from all platforms. All further information on Solos, Duos and Trios as well as the times for the individual days can be found here.
FNCS
The next Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS) Chapter 3 is set to kick off in February 2022. This year will focus on duos instead of trios. The two qualifiers are scheduled to take place within a week of each other and will each consist of three rounds instead of four. In addition, changes to the points format and the weighting of a Victory Royale are planned. Thus, a new match point format has been worked out: Duos that have both achieved two Victory Royales and earned a certain number of points will automatically win the FNCS. If no team has fulfilled the requirements, the FNCS is usually played to the end.
