The new Assetto Corsa promises a revolution in the racing game genre for 2025: ultra-realism, a huge open world and all-round improved driving simulation. In the GlobalESportNews Talk, racing game expert Kevin gives you the details.

2025 will be a good year for racing game fans. With Japanese Drift Master, Wreckfest 2 and Assetto Corsa EVO, we have several genre heavyweights coming to our homes and garages.

The new Assetto Corsa in particular has big plans. The Italian studio Kunos Simulazioni is aiming for nothing less than a racing game revolution. With more realism, a larger open world and even more precise driving physics.

The information that our racing game expert Kevin presented at FYNG comes straight from the developers. Because in the run-up to the show, Kevin was able to talk to chief developer Marco Massarutto. In the talk, he shares his insights.

Ultra-realism meets open world

According to Kunos Simulazioni, Assetto Corsa EVO offers car fans both an accessible open world and a tough simulation. The open game world is said to cover an incredible 1,600 square kilometers and reproduces the legendary Nürburgring-Nordschleife and the surrounding Eifel region. Players can not only race on the famous race track, but also drive through picturesque villages such as Quiddelbach or Döttingen – a real tribute to the well-known motorsport region.

Despite the new open world, the new Assetto Corsa remains true to its core DNA; the game is first and foremost a simulation. And according to Kevin, the developers are not compromising on driving physics. Realism ranges from detailed weather and rain physics to dynamically drying track sections.

A new career mode is designed to guide players through missions and challenges, similar to Forza Horizon. However, Assetto Corsa EVO always pursues the goal of being accessible without taking away immersion from hardcore fans.

From its early access launch on January 16, 2025, there should be a solid base with 20 vehicles and five race tracks, including classics such as Imola and Laguna Seca. The developers plan to expand Assetto Corsa EVO with updates for years to come. There will be no microtransactions; instead, the developers plan to enrich the game with additional vehicles and tracks through full DLCs.

A final launch date for the new Assetto Corsa has not yet been set. The 1.0 release is planned for the fall after the end of the early access phase. For the time being, however, only PC users can get behind the virtual wheel. A console version is planned, but the developers have not yet provided a specific release schedule for it.
