The upcoming game Redfall will run at only 30 frames per second on Xbox Series X and S. The community is disappointed.
In recent years, the number “30” has disappeared more and more from gamers’ FPS specs. This is mainly due to the fact that the latest console generation can now display almost any game at 60 FPS
Even with the “most powerful console in the world”, you could assume that every game runs smoothly with at least 60 FPS. This is how Microsoft itself described the Xbox Series X at the time.
But there are always exceptions.
The open world co-op hero shooter Redfall, which will be released on May 02 by Bethesda, is now causing disappointment in the Xbox community as one of these exceptions.
30 PFS for Xbox players
What happened? In a tweet on Redfall’s official Twitter channel, it was announced that the game will only have a quality mode on Xbox Series X and S at release.
The game is said to only run at 4K 30 FPS on the Xbox Series X for now. The slightly weaker Xbox Series S will only get 1440p (WQHD) at 30 FPS.

Xbox Series S: 1440p 30 FPS
60 FPS Performance mode will be added via game update at a later date. pic.twitter.com/NLaGsMbwdW– Redfall (@playRedfall) April 12, 2023
The tweet also mentions that the performance mode with 60 FPS will be delivered later. An exact date or a period was not mentioned.
Where is the problem?
In social networks, among other things, it is suspected that the developers from Arkane Studios have problems with the CPU . This is said to be related to the lack of experience with open-world and online co-op games.
Since the game hasn’t been released yet, this can only be speculated so far. Basically, the Xbox Series X/S offers a lot of processing power thanks to the Zen 2 CPU with eight cores and 3.8 GHz clock rate despite its advanced age. Especially since the graphics card does most of the work in high 4K resolution anyway.
Time problems at the developer studio with regard to optimization we therefore consider to be the more decisive reason, which some community members also bring up as an important factor in the current discussion.
Discontent among the players
Taking a look at the comments of the announcement, it quickly becomes clear that the community is anything but enthusiastic . Most players seem to prefer waiting longer than playing the game in this state. Some also talk about how 60 frames per second should be standard.
“These companies really need to learn from games like Battlefield 2042. Stop rushing games that aren’t ready yet! Just wait until the playability peaks before you release them. People would rather wait than play something that was rushed and is of inferior quality. “
Some gamers would apparently settle for a much lower resolution as long as it only hit the coveted 60 frames.
“You’re telling me they can’t make it run smoothly at 1440p and 60 FPS on the Series X? […] Most people would even accept 1080p. “

Others go a step further and turn directly to Microsoft The Twitter user (@Klobrille) warns the tech giant not to neglect Xbox gamers. In his opinion, Microsoft is well on its way to alienating its console players.
He cites the infrequent exclusive titles, lack of user experience customization and more:
Opinion: Microsoft needs to care to not make Xbox console owners look like second-class citizens right now. Redfall not supporting 60 FPS at launch after being shown running at that frame rate in basically every gameplay trailer is just the icing on the cake. An analysis.

Some also worry about the announced performance mode. Since Arkane Studios didn’t mention a date, some seem to think that it will be added months later – if at all. However, only time will tell in the end.
What do you think about the fact that Redfall will only run at 30 FPS for now? Are you still looking forward to the game? Will you buy Redfall as soon as it is released, or will the FPS limitation scare you off? How long would you wait for the performance mode before you lose interest? Or will you only play the title on PC anyway? Let us know what you think in the comments!
