Disney didn’t want Nimona, but the animated film became a real Netflix hit in 2023. Shortly after the Oscar nomination, Nimona is now available for free on YouTube

You don’t currently have a Netflix subscription? With subscription prices rising and TV series being canceled too often, I don’t think anyone can blame you. If you still want to watch one of the best Netflix films of 2023, we’ve got some good news for you

Nimona is now available for free on YouTube – even on the official Netflix account So you don’t need a paid subscription to catch up on one of last year’s absolute movie highlights. You can find the complete movie at the top of this article or at this link

Nimona is a real animation highlight

In case you’re wondering what Nimona is about: The movie revolves around an outcast shapeshifter (Chloe Grace Moretz) who tries to absolve the knight Ballister Boldheart (Riz Ahmed) of a crime he didn’t commit.

Nimona comes across with a hell of a lot of humor, charm and an animation style that is really worth seeing. The official trailer for the Netflix film gives you a concrete impression:

Strong reviews and nominated for an Oscar

What critics think of Nimona?  The animated film has a proud average score of 93 percent on Rotten Tomatoes even viewers give it 91 points. At Metacritic it also looks pretty good with an average of 73 to 75 percent. At IMDb Nimona scores an impressive 7.5 out of ten points.

By the way: Nimona was originally even supposed to be a Disney film. But the mouse company shut down Blue Sky Studios (Ice Age, Rio, Robots) in 2021 and Netflix snapped up the project.

Nimona has a chance of winning an Oscar in 2024: The fact that Netflix is making Nimona available for free on YouTube is probably not without ulterior motives. The animated adventure was recently nominated for the 2024 Oscars in the Best Animated Film  category – you can find a complete overview from our colleagues at Filmstarts

The streaming service probably wants to draw more attention to Nimona and get the film talked about again in order to increase its chances of winning the award. Ultimately, we should only benefit from this. Because even if you don’t have a Netflix subscription, you can now catch up on one of the best films of 2023 without having to pay for it.
