The upcoming RTS Empire of the Ants relies fully on the graphics power of the Unreal Engine 5 and also wants to convince in terms of gameplay.

Do you remember Empire of the Ants? Maybe you played the original in 2000, a cult little real-time strategy game. Or you might have leafed through the novel, which was published in 1997 – an absolutely fascinating sci-fi journey into the creepy-crawly universe.

If you missed all that, the upcoming remake should still make you sit up and take notice Because Empire of the Ants (new version) wants to get very close to photorealism and also inspire you with exciting gameplay. We have all the known info on the release and the first trailer.

Watch it right here, some scenes could be straight out of a documentary:

What do we know about Empire of the Ants?

This is what’s inside: You control an ant colony as the so-called “ant rescuer”, which has to build a new home and conquer further territories in real time. In the process, you meet other forest dwellers and experience the course of the seasons. Thanks to Unreal Engine 5, all this is supposed to look almost photorealistic.

So it will be a remake and not just a modern conversion of Empire of the Ants. The story is based on the novel from 1997, and in addition to single player, there will also be a multiplayer mode.

(Of course, there are many other animals besides ants living in the forest. For example, this hunk of snail).

The developers: The game is developed by the French studio Tower Five (Lornsword Winter Chronicle). Microids (Murder on the Orient Expess, Flashback 2) is on board as publisher.

The Release: No fixed release date for the game is known yet, it is supposed to come out sometime in 2024. It will be released for PC (on Steam and Epic) and consoles (not specified, we assume Xbox X/S and PlayStation 5).

Now it’s your turn: What do you think of the Empire of the Ants remake? Are such unusual settings for real-time strategy games just your thing or do you prefer to stick to the tried and tested classics? Have you ever played the original?
