Is an absent hero from Nintendo’s earlier days returning soon? There are some clues that give legitimate reason for hope
What games do you most want to see on the Switch 2 – or whatever the next Nintendo console is called? A new Mario game? Donkey Kong Country? Zelda? For many fans, especially older ones, the answer is probably Star Fox
Who please?
If you’re wondering, we can understand. After all, the last game featuring the space fox called Star Fox Zero was released in 2016 and there has been radio silence ever since.
Now there are increasing signs of a Star Fox comeback. We summarize for you what is currently buzzing through the rumor mill.
This points to a new Star Fox
Insider Zippo , who has already attracted attention in the past for his correct predictions, has written a blog summarizing the signs of a new Star Fox so far
Indication No. 1 according to him, some entries in the game files of Switch Sports, which among other things Logic_StarFoxPassStraightRing
and Logic_StarFoxLaserEnergyItem
are said to be.
Our assessment: Such internal mentions do not necessarily indicate an unannounced game. Nintendo is known for tailoring the technology for each of its games and using set pieces from other titles. So it’s quite possible that the above entries are leftovers from previous projects that have simply migrated over to Switch Sports
Indication no. 2 is already more tangible. Because Nintendo had some new trademarks protected in November 2023: Princess Peach
and – you guessed it – Star Fox
As mentioned, these are new entries, not a renewal of existing trademarks Princess Peach
is likely to be the Princess Peach: Showtime! to be released on March 22, 2024. And behind Star Fox? As you can see, this should be a justified reason for fans to hope.
Release for the Switch 2?
With previously unannounced Nintendo games from 2024, the question is obvious: Will the title possibly be released for the Switch 2 at launch?
Nintendo is almost certain to launch a successor console this year. In that case, the Japanese gaming giant would need a tantalizing selection of launch titles. It would be questionable whether a new Star Fox would still have enough traction today. On the other hand, Nintendo is known for placing great trust in its brands – even the smaller ones.
Of course, a cross-gen release would also be conceivable, i.e. a release for both the Switch and its successor.
As mentioned, none of this is certain anyway. Nevertheless, the next Nintendo Direct is said to be imminent. So we may find out more about a new Star Fox in just a few days.
Now an appeal to the clever foxes among you: Would you be excited about a new Star Fox? Have you played the previous installments on the SNES, N64, Gamecube or Wii U? If so, what is your personal favorite part? And which games would you like to see for the launch of the Switch 2? Let us know in the comments!
