Trudging through New Atlantis with mechs? A modder wants to bring the mechanical battle colossi into the role-playing game and shows a first video

Starfield is set in the distant future. Mankind races through space in futuristic spaceships, shoots each other up with laser weapons and the odd nomad even gets to call himself Starborn and show off some superpowers.

But where are the mechs? It’s hard to imagine that in this sci-fi setting there aren’t combat robots armed to the teeth, stomping across the planets and giving space pirates and other vermin a run for their money.

So many fans want mechs in Starfield. And a modder is currently working on fulfilling this wish. There is even already a video worth watching.

Put your hands up or my mech will shoot!

The modder (Jared Kohr) has presented his current progress on YouTube. His mod already allows you to march freely through the area on board a mech and even use the weapon systems to get rid of your enemies in a spectacular way.

The mod is not yet finished and there is no download available yet. But the comments under the video already speak a clear language: Many Starfield fans are excited and can hardly wait until the mod is released:

This looks fantastic and it almost feels lazy that Bethesda didn’t add this themselves […]

Give this man an award. Fast and reliable mechs. Bethesda should actually hire him

Why are there actually no mechs in Starfield?

There is even an in-game explanation as to why the world of Bethesda’s role-playing game is not currently populated by mechs. The lore says: After the Colony Wars, the battle colossi were simply banned.

Unofficially, however, fans have another assumption: On (Reddit) they mock that Bethesda simply wants to release the feature itself as paid DLC in the future.

Would you be happy about mechs in Starfield? Have you read every scrap of lore about the combat robots in the game or would you prefer to trudge across the planets on foot either way? Or would you prefer real vehicles to get from A to B faster? And what do you think of the roadmap for 2024? Let us know your opinion in the comments!
