Street Fighter publisher Capcom announced that the prize pool for the next Capcom Cup will be increased. The joy among fans of the fighting game scene is great, but no one probably expected such an amount. If you win this tournament, you’ll be a millionaire in no time!

After the Street Fighter 6 Capcom Cup IX on 20 February 2023 was a huge success, the game’s publisher announced on Twitter a huge increase in the prize pool for the next cup.

Capcom Cup X is expected to take place at a similar time in early 2024, literally making its winner an instant millionaire!

This prize money puts CS:GO in the shade

Capcom announced that Capcom Cup X will have a total prize pool of $2 million. One million of that will go to the first-place winner of the tournament alone

For comparison, in 2023 the prize pool was “only” $298,500.

Even in a major Esports title like CS:GO, the prize pools of the biggest tournaments were significantly smaller. At IEM Major: Rio 2022 and IEM Katowice 2023, the prize pool was $1.25 million each. And unlike Street Fighter, CS:GO is a team-based game, which means that each individual player receives significantly less for winning.

Good news for the entire gaming scene

This is good news for the fighting game and perhaps the entire esports scene, as it is possible that other publishers and esports tournament organisers will follow Capcom’s lead and put more money into their events. Will other organisers follow suit and also increase the prize money of their tournaments?
