You want two minutes of hard-hitting clone warrior action? Then you’ll definitely like the new fan film Star Wars The 212th.

I feel like I should have paid for this – that’s how enthusiastic one of the rave reviews of the new Star Wars fan film, which only landed on YouTube a few days ago, sounds.

Since the approximately two-minute and 40-second long spectacle was released on February 27, the Star Wars community has been showered with praise – not only on YouTube, but also on Reddit, for example.

With the rudimentary title Star Wars The 212th is dedicated to the action-packed scene of the landing of Commander Cody’s troops on the planet Utapau , which is in the hands of the separatists during the events of Episode 3.

A spectacular firefight breaks out between clone troopers and battle droids, which was really skillfully and cinematically staged. Just take a look for yourself, the short film doesn’t take more than three minutes of your time:

The team of almost 20 people from Hoplite VFX is responsible for Star Wars The 212th. The project was realized in about a year and a half, during which all those involved dedicated their free time to the project.

You can’t make any money with the final product, so prestige has to be enough.(Otherwise, a Disney lawyer would probably be knocking at the door.) But according to the team members, the fact that they were able to establish firm friendships by working together on Star Wars 212th is also a reward.

Most of the people in charge of Hoplite VFX are based in Quebec, Canada – but some members are spread across the globe. According to an entry on Creative Bloq, the biggest challenge was finding dates for working together due to the time difference.

By the way, if you’re wondering whether Star Wars 212th used generative AI: The Hoplite VFC team clearly rejects this. They only used an AI program that helped with data management – specifically, motion capture recordings are mentioned as an example.

Hoplite argues that AI can be a useful tool that can save a team of this manageable size a lot of time and money. However, they don’t want to and haven’t used AI to create content.
