The Wolverine from 2013 was almost a dream come true for many comic fans. Deadpool 3 finally makes up for it – and does it properly

24 years ago, Hugh Jackman unsheathed his adamantium claws for the first time. And although he actually wanted to appear in the role of Wolverine for the last time with Logan, Jackman is returning as the Marvel mutant on July 26, 2024 for Deadpool 3

It’s no longer a secret that this is even a small dream come true for many comic fans. Official images from the set have already confirmed that Hugh Jackman is wearing the classic Wolverine costume from the direct source material for the first time. That means: black and yellow spandex including mask and gloves.

After 24 years, finally the correct Wolverine costume

In fact, back in 2013, a scene that was never supposed to make it to the cinema was already being prepared for this: An alternative ending sequence for The Wolverine teased that Hugh Jackman would finally slip into a comic-accurate costume. But this never happened in subsequent X-Men films such as Future is Past, Apocalypse and Logan.

You can find the deleted scene from Wolverine: Way of the Warrior here:

The new Wolverine costume for Deadpool 3 goes one better. Because as leaked promo material for the only MCU film in 2024 shows, the mask even comes with white eyes. Comic fans could hardly be happier!

The fact that Deadpool 3 takes this little design detail with it comes as only a limited surprise. After all, Wade Wilson’s (Ryan Reynolds) mask has been relying on it since the first Deadpool from 2016. It would be an absolute waste if Wolverine didn’t follow suit in this respect:

And in case you were puzzled by the previous lines: Yes, Deadpool 3 is actually the only movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to be released in cinemas in 2024. Originally Captain America: Brave New World and The Thunderbolts were scheduled for this year, but they were postponed to 2025.

The decisive factor was the decision by film studios not to grant screenwriters and actors fairer working conditions and better wages for months. Numerous films and TV series were pushed back in the wake of the major Hollywood strike in 2023

While new MCU films in 2024 are looking rather bleak, there’s plenty of news for Disney Plus as usual.

What are your hopes and expectations for Deadpool 3 and the overdue reunion of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman on the big screen? How much have you enjoyed the Deadpool films so far and what do you think of the merc with the big mouth making the leap into the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Let us know in the comments!
