Although the Australian Grand Prix does not take place in Formula 1, there is still an exciting event for racing fans thanks to Esport: Among other things, Max Verstappen and Lando Norris will be competing with big names from the virtual scene in the “Not the AUS GP” in the “F1 2019” racing simulation.

A consolation for all Formula 1 fans: Even though the Australia Grand Prix has been cancelled, there will be a race of the extra class to marvel at on Sunday. The Veloce Esports team is hosting a virtual substitute for Formula 1.

Under the title “Not the AUS GP” F1 professionals and professional SimRacers will compete against each other. In addition to the popular McLaren driver Lando Norris, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen will also be at the start. Both drivers are known for often stepping on the gas on virtual race tracks.

The who-is-who of the racing scene

It continues prominently on the list of participants. In addition to former Formula 1 drivers Juan Pablo Montoya and Rubens Barrichello, Indianapolis 500 Champion Simon Pagenaud is also in the race.

There are also old acquaintances from the SimRacing scene. Two-time F1 world champion Brendon Leigh is also taking part.

The scene holds together

According to the organizers, the race was organized spontaneously. The plan had arisen on Thursday morning and was fixed one day later. There was great interest and in no time enough participants were found.

60 drivers will initially compete in three races in groups of 20 participants. The best 20 will then come to the grand finale. The event, which takes place on Sunday at 18:45 German time, can be followed on Twitch and YouTube.
