Sleuths, pay attention! In the new video for Alan Wake II, Remedy Entertainment introduces an important gameplay mechanic from Saga Anderson. Crime fans might already know this from another context.
Watch out!
As we already know, we slip into the role of two protagonists in Alan Wake II. On the one hand, it is about the eponymous author, who is still stuck in the Dark Place. On the other hand, it’s about FBI agent Saga Anderson, who has to investigate a series of gruesome ritual murders in the small town of Bright Falls.
In order to support her detective work, Saga accesses her Mind Space. This is a mental place where the agent can gain an overview of the case. Thus, she organises various clues on the case board or, at a small desk, the manuscripts she has found, which probably originate from Alan himself. At the profiling desk, she is likely to speculate on the motives for the crime and how they shed light on the killer.
Those who are fans of detective stories will probably remember an episode of the BBC series Sherlock in which the concept of the mind palace is also addressed. Of course, the detective, convinced of himself, chooses such an ostentatious building to sort his thoughts.
But as already shown in the episode and on the basis of Saga’s Mind Place, any place can be chosen for it. Saga’s log cabin fits better into the concept of Alan Wake II anyway.
Alan Wake II will be released on 17 October for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Those who want to pre-order the horror-survival game can do so on the (official website) among others.
