Nintendo announced a special broadcast called the “Splatoon 3 Direct” on Monday afternoon. This exclusively highlights new content for the upcoming colour shooter coming to Nintendo Switch next month

When and where does the Splatoon 3 Direct start?
The Splatoon 3 Direct will kick off on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, starting at 3pm. Nintendo is planning about 30 minutes for this special presentation. Among other things, a live premiere will begin on the Youtube channel.
New explanations on gameplay content as well as weapons and more are expected in the Splatoon 3 Direct.
When will Splatoon 3 be released?
The release of Splatoon 3 is set for September 9, 2022. The game will be released exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
How expensive is the game?
Splatoon 3 is listed for 59.99 euros at all mail-order chains. To mark the third part of the third-person shooter series, a Splatoon-style OLED Switch version will be released in advance, which will already be on sale from 26 August for 350 euros – but without the game.
What changes compared to Splatoon 2?
District Splatsville is the main setting for the action. It is a desert far away from the otherwise familiar city of Inkopolis, which was already shown last year with a teaser trailer. So in Splatoon 3, the focus is on the city of Splatsville “in the heart of dusty no man”s land”, where multiplayer battles with Inklings and Octolings will be fought.
A gameplay video was shown back in April, revealing the new abilities. Brand new is, among other things, the octopus roll, which you can use to “get out of trouble”. One of the new weapons is the “Tri-Stringer”, which is operated like a bow and shoots three ink jets at the same time like arrows.
The new special abilities will be joined by the crab tank. Meanwhile, the Inkzooka from Splatoon returns in a new species. Whether other specials from past titles will return is still unknown. The Splatoon 3 Direct might help remedy this.

Will Story Mode and Salmon Run be back?

What is Splatoon?
Splatoon is a multiplayer shooter in the third-person perspective. Unlike many other popular shooters, the motion controls are extremely popular here. This is because they allow precise aiming with simple controller movements.
The game principle in the entry mode “turf war” is simple: two teams of four players each fight for a territory, whereby the map is coloured with the help of the weapons. The team that has more territory in its colour at the end of the time (3 minutes) wins the game. Basically, it is always important to have map control.
In Splatoon, the gameplay is characterised by the change of form of the game figures. In the child form, you shoot with the gun, use utility and activate the special ability. In the Inkling version, on the other hand, the characters can swim through their own ink as an octopus and are thus more mobile. So those who have inked the map a lot with their own ink have an enormous tactical and mobile advantage.
In the Ranked modes, there are other focus points than just the area. In Domination, one or more zones on the map must be coloured, whereas in Tower Command, at least one character must be on the moving object approaching the target.
How many times has Splatoon and Splatoon 2 been sold?
Splatoon 2 has sold over 13 million copies since its release in summer 2017 until March 2022. This means that the game is scratching the top 10 of Switch bestsellers. The scene is biggest in Japan in particular, but high-level esports tournaments with national as well as international championships have also been held in Europe and the USA in recent years.
The first Splatoon title, released for the Wii U in May 2015, went over the counter approximately five million times. That may not sound like much, but due to the weak sales figures of its Switch predecessor (just under 13 million sales), this means that more than one in three owners of this console have owned the game, which is one of the highlights of this generation alongside Mario Kart 8.
