A new money system is supposed to appear in Grand Theft Auto 6 according to insider information. Instead of GTA dollars, cryptocurrency could also play a role

Trusted insider Tom Henderson has already correctly predicted scenarios in EA games such as Battlefield or FIFA several times. Henderson is also said to have reliable sources for Rockstar Games’ highlight franchise. In GTA 6, cryptocurrencies will allegedly serve as a source of income. Already on 3 June, the journalist reported on Twitter that there are “some missions in the game that reward you with bitcoin instead of cash.” However, he clarified a little later that they were “in-game payments” available as rewards from “higher level” characters.

The information has caused plenty of confusion because there has never been this kind of integration in a game from Rockstar Games. However, the company could be going with the trend of NFTs and cryptocurrencies, both of which have integrated as an additional payment method in recent years and have sporadically reached the gaming industry. Henderson stressed that his information and source were “not kidding”. “It certainly won’t be called ‘Bitcoin’ – but it will be a cryptocurrency.” This information should still be taken with a grain of salt, according to the insider.

Possibilities for cryptocurrency in GTA 6

There is currently no indication whether the established cryptocurrency Bitcoin will play a role in Grand Theft Auto 6, however, there is speculation about a new option. To avoid unnecessary confusion, such a currency with a unique name that only exists in the Rockstar Games title would make sense.

In GTA 5, an in-game stock exchange with stock trading is already integrated. A similar stage is accordingly possible for cryptocurrency in GTA 6. According to Henderson, the stock exchange will play a role again in the new title and this time include a broker that offers “different cryptocurrencies”. This could make it possible to speculate with the currency accordingly and ideally sell it for a multiple.

No hints about possible NFTs in GTA 6 are known yet. In an interview with gamesindustry.biz, Take-Two CEO Harry Strauss Zelnick stated: “We want to make sure that consumers always have a good experience when they engage with our properties. And losing money on a speculation is not a good experience, so we’re going to stay away from speculation.” However, Strauss Zelnick is positive that there may be future opportunities for NFTs in Take-Two deals. And Rockstar Games, along with GTA, belongs to that very company.
