The well-known horror game series seemed to be history for a long time. But a previously reliable leaker is now causing new speculation.

Apparently the rumour of the past few days will come true later tonight. The usually well-informed Twitter user AestheticGamer aka Dusk Golem reports that first screenshots and a cover art for the remake of the first Alone in the Dark have been leaked in advance on the internet.
According to the information, the remake is a new edition in the style of Resident Evil 2, i.e. it is a new interpretation both technically and in terms of gameplay. The story is also supposed to be penned by the author of SOMA and Amnesia.

There may soon be reason for creepy fans to rejoice. Because as a tweet from a previously reliable leaker suggests, there will soon be news on the popular series of horror games. What is currently known and when we could expect an announcement, you can find out here.
Remake, sequel or something else?
The basis of the latest rumours is, as already mentioned, a tweet by the leaker The Snitch. He has always been right with his predictions, which he has only been publishing on Twitter for a few months. He now also posted the following there:

This phrase may not sound familiar to many of you, as it comes from the film adaptation of Alone in the Dark. And that one failed completely with both critics and viewers. So it is to be hoped that this is not a sequel to that work.
What can we expect?
Unfortunately, it’s impossible to tell from the tweet alone what kind of announcement we might expect. A continuation of the series seems unlikely after so long, though not impossible. It is more likely that we can expect a remake of one of the games. Frogware is planning something similar with the detective adventure The Awakened.
Finally, of course, something far more unspectacular could be in the offing. For example, it has already been suspected that it could be a DLC for Dead by Daylight. After all, the multiplayer horror game has already announced a killer from the Resident Evil series.
The date for a possible announcement would probably be Gamescom at the end of August.
What is Alone in the Dark anyway?
Alone in the Dark is a series of horror games that is considered the founder of survival horror. We always pursue various supernatural cases and events as detective Edward Carnby and are hunted by monsters and sinister figures. The games were mostly convincing because of their gripping staging and dark atmosphere.
The first part of the series appeared in 1992, and the last real Alone in The Dark appeared in 2008 and featured full 3D graphics for the first time in the series. A few years later, the shooter Alone in the Dark: Illumination was released, but it was almost worse received than the film by Uwe Boll.
