A production error identifies weaker AMD processors as Ryzen 9000 processors
Recently, AMD postponed the launch of the new Ryzen processors by several weeks. At the time, AMD cited problems with the product testing process as the reason for the delay.
The following AMD processors are affected:
- AMD Ryzen 5 9600X
- AMD Ryzen 7 9700X
- AMD Ryzen 9 9900X
- AMD Ryzen 9 9950X
A report now suggests that a typo is at least partially responsible for the delay

The picture shows an AMD Ryzen 7 9700X processor, but the chip says Ryzen 9 9700X.
Here are the details:
- Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 7 processors are shown as Ryzen 9 processors due to the typo.
- AMD’s Ryzen 7 9700X, for example, becomes Ryzen 9 9700X due to the typo.
- AMD has recalled the products from retailers and OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) for review.
It is unclear whether only the label on the processor itself or also the packaging is affected by the problem. So far, only Ryzen 5 9600X and Ryzen 7 9700X are affected by the typo. However, AMD has also recalled Ryzen 9 processors for review
According toTom’s HardwareAMD plans to ship the processors again after the review.
AMD is keeping a low profile and states that a small part of production is affected. This would not meet the company’s quality standards. It is certain that the sales launch will be postponed due to the problem.
AMD has already confirmed the following dates for the processors:
- Ryzen 5 9600X on August 08, 2024
- Ryzen 7 9700X on August 08, 2024
- Ryzen 9 9900X on August 15, 2024
- Ryzen 9 9950X on August 15, 2024
