Anno 1800 just won’t stop getting bigger. Now it’s getting a fourth season and scenarios as well. Have they gone mad?

You should take a break, you’ve been playing for four years. It’s about time Anno 1800 also got that warning message for our advisor. Because the building game will continue to be supplied with new content in 2022. Somewhat surprisingly, Ubisoft just announced Season 4 for their highly popular building game.

This is what’s in Anno 1800 Season 4

Ubisoft Mainz is holding back a little on detailed information for the time being. For example, we don’t yet know what the new DLCs will all be called. But we have already been given a few small glimpses. Unsurprisingly, there will once again be three DLCs that will be released at regular intervals. Until now, each season of Anno 1800 always consisted of three expansions. Here’s the overview:

Anno 1800: An overview of all DLCs – and for whom they are worthwhile

When is Season 4 coming? The next season starts next year, which is 2022. And it seems like the first DLC won’t be released until around the middle of the year either. Because Ubisoft doesn’t plan to reveal all the details about Season 4 until March.

What is Season 4 about? Already with Season 3, the developers refrained from saddling us with another session (i.e. a new area). With Old World, New World, Arctic and Enbesa, there are already enough of them. That’s why Season 3 primarily expanded the Old World. Season 4 will now mainly revolve around the New World.

What exactly will change in the New World remains vague. But there is talk that at least one DLC (most likely the first) will also take care of the space problems in the New World. So more or bigger islands are coming.

Anno 1800 with new scenarios: With each of the new DLCs, a new scenario will also be introduced. Scenarios already existed in Anno 1404 (which, by the way, is currently free) and presented you with a specially curated challenge – completely detached from the campaign or endless game. This is exactly how it will work in Anno 1800. The first scenario will also be released independently of the Season Pass and for free as part of the new Update 13.

And we actually thought that the game couldn’t get any more complex after the great DLC Roofs of the City.

Update 13 and the new scenario

It’s still a while until Season 4 of Anno 1800, but there’s still plenty of new Anno material coming out this year, on 14 December to be precise. On this day, not only the Game Update 13 will be released, but also the first scenario for free for everyone. This free content will be flanked by two new cosmetic DLCs for which a fee will be charged.

Update 13

The most important thing is quickly clarified here: The new update will again make a few optimisations to Anno 1800 and most likely also fix some bugs. The official patch notes are not yet available, they will be shared with the public on Friday, December 10.

The cosmetic DLCs

Two new cosmetic DLCs will be released along with the Game Update on 14 December. As usual, both are not part of a Season Pass, but can only be purchased independently.

The Colourful Paint Package: This expansion does not bring any ornaments or the like, but lots of new skins for existing buildings. So you can finally give your apartment buildings your own flair, just the way you like it. For example, you can build an entire neighbourhood with brick houses or embellish facades in the city centre with neon signs. In addition, there are finally new models for the marketplace. This will make the building fit in better with the cityscape in later phases of the game. The DLC costs 5 euros.

Neighbourhoods near an industrial area certainly look good with the brick look.

The Plant a Tree DLC: This simple DLC is not there to make money from, but serves a good purpose. The DLC only brings a new tree ornament, but still costs 3 euros. However, the entire net proceeds (about 1 euro) will be donated to Ecologi, which works to plant new trees. The DLC will remain in the store until the end of March 2022 and will become free at the end of 2022.

The first free scenario: Eden at the end

Like the Plant a Tree DLC, Eden at the End was created through Ubisoft’s participation in the Green Game Jam. Here, the aim was to develop content for their own game that raises awareness for the environment. So at its core, this scenario is about building ecologically.

This is what the scenario is about:

We slip into the role of Isabel Sarmento, who normally supports us as a neutral trader in the new world. The scenario picks up on the instincts of the Pyropharians from the story of the main game. We have to take over an island that has been plastered with polluting factories by this faction.

But since these factories supply the people on the island with special goods and electricity, we have to find a way to reconcile the environment and production.

So we should not only take care of the needs of the two strata of the population (Jornaleros and Oberos), but also keep an eye on the eco-balance at the same time. This new mechanic gives our island a state of health, so to speak. We have to keep both air and water and soil quality high, or there will be side effects such as droughts.

In that scenario, the balance may tip and we may then permanently lose the game. And that is by design. But like in a Roguelite, we keep some progress and can then try again under slightly better conditions to save the island from ecological doom.
