Anno 1800 doesn’t get a 5th season, but isn’t at the end yet. The development studio has now revealed how it will continue in 2023 and also hinted at a sequel.

Season 4 is heading for its destination port this week and brings the last big DLC for Anno 1800. Not only of the year, but ever. Because as Ubisoft Mainz now announced, there will indeed be no more Season 5 for the building game.

However, it will still be continued on a smaller scale – before a successor knocks on the door. Find out what the future holds for Anno 1800 and the series here.

No Season 5, but new DLCs

We’ve been speculating for a long time whether Anno 1800 would dare a fifth Season or not. What the arguments for or against would be, we discussed in the podcast with Writing Bull. Now it’s official: There will not be another Season Pass in 2023. However, Anno 1800 will not lie completely fallow, because the team is planning even more cosmetic DLCs. Exactly how many is not yet known. But the first one has already been announced and is to be released in January.

What’s in the Dragon Garden DLC

For a long time, Asia was considered an exciting possibility for another playable colony region. However, it will now never come to that. However, the team promises at least a little southeastern flair for your island cities. With the help of the Dragon’s Garden DLC, a whole host of ornaments will be added to your city, providing it with Far Eastern cosmetics. It is not yet known exactly which ornaments these are. However, there is already a picture of glowing lanterns, shrine gates and an artificial dragon.

What else is planned for Anno 1800?

Until now, the big game updates were always linked to the release of a DLC. In 2023, however, there will be at least one major patch that will be released completely independently. The free update is planned for spring, which will bring bug fixes as well as Quality of Life improvements.

Anno 1800 on Steam: On 8 December, not only will the final major DLC for Anno 1800, Rise of the New World, be released, but the game will also return to Steam. Anno 1800 was originally announced for Steam, but then moved to the Epic Store. So currently, only those people who pre-ordered Anno 1800 before it migrated own it on Steam. From 8 December, everyone will be able to buy Anno 1800 on Steam again. Soon the game will also be released for consoles!

A successor is coming

Not surprisingly, Anno 1800 will not be the last Anno. Even though no concrete successor has been announced yet, the team is now turning its attention in that direction. The blog mentions that the concept phase for the next project has begun. A lot of feedback from the community on Anno 1800 is to flow into this, as well as the experience gained from this major project.

Accordingly, there are still no details about the next Anno. When it will be released can also only be speculated. If the team only enters the concept phase now, we expect at least four years of development time. At least that’s how much time there was between Anno 2205 and Anno 1800.

The question in which time and in which setting the next Anno will be set will be particularly exciting. We have analysed the most likely ones.

But what is your personal wish? Write us in the comments what you hope for in a successor!
