We have all the info on the new skyscraper DLC for Anno 1800 for you. Attention: The finale of the third season is not for beginners.

Polish your cufflinks and have your hair pomade ready! The last DLC of the current Season 3 of Anno 1800 is in the starting blocks. Roofs of the City is scheduled for release on 31 August 2021 and is definitely not for beginners, as the current blog entry from the developers shows.

We explain the new features of Roofs of the City, why the new goods cycles will give you gasps even if you’re a pro, and which new monument the DLC has in store as a highlight. So are you ready to turn your entire city layout upside down? Let’s go!

How the skyscrapers work

How to start building: You need a minimum of 5000 investors to start the new DLC. Then the narrow-bellied investor Donny Bader will contact you, who wants to spruce up your tranquil city panorama with high-rise buildings. Of course, this requires new production chains, which you can find out more about below (hold on to your hats to be on the safe side).

Modular System: High-rise buildings are a further development of engineer or investor housing. They can be expanded in a modular way, with a maximum of three or five floors each. Visually, each floor can be customised in the menu.

New Needs: The skyscraper inherits the satisfaction and bonuses of its original building, but each level brings new needs. As usual, these are either goods (for example, cognac and biscuits) or properties such as the furniture store.

Cost-benefit factor: Skyscraper residents do pay taxes, but unlike other residential buildings, high-rise buildings themselves cost maintenance. Therefore you have to calculate exactly and work out how many you want to place in order not to make a loss. Of course, they offer much more space for inhabitants and bring influence points.

A varied panorama not only looks nice, but also brings important economic advantages.

Schönbauer challenge: The skyscrapers have the “panorama effect”. This gives you buffs for buildings if you build them at different heights, creating an aesthetic skyline. It reduces maintenance and influences the maximum number of inhabitants. Thus, building beautifully is an important factor in your optimisation calculation.

New buildings and goods cycles – not for beginners

New shopping arcades: There will be three types of shopping arcades: Department Stores, Furniture Stores and Drug Stores. These not only meet the needs of residents, but also bring bonuses and effects in the sphere of influence, depending on the type.

New recipes: Already existing buildings get new recipes for production. In the chemical factory from travel time you can now produce varnish (ethanol, resin, quartz sand) and in the orchard you produce cherry wood and resin.

This can give you high blood pressure: The new commodity cycles are quite complex to say the least.

New factories: In the production line, the lifts (steel, steam engines, wood veneers) and typewriters needed for skyscrapers are made. In the manufactory you make violins (steel, cherry wood, lacquer) and cognac.

New for the New World: The map now gets its own chemical factory, which in turn produces ethanol (corn, wood) and chewing gum.

New Items: A handful of new items now bring effects specially adapted to the DLC buildings. Own items for buildings from travel time will also be delivered. Some items now bring disadvantages as well as advantages and provide even more fiddling factor.

Interplay with other DLCs: If you already own DLCs such as The Passage or Land of the Lions, you will receive additional goods such as refrigerators, face cream and canopy beds. Bonuses such as those from Palaces of Power and, of course, the bus network from Travel Time also affect your new buildings.

The DLC highlight: A new monument

This is the Skyline Tower: The new monument will go down in history as the tallest building in Anno 1800. The luxurious skyscraper offers space for several thousand investors.

How to build it: Once you have built a certain number of skyscrapers, Lard Curl Donny will contact you again and propose the large project. Just in case you haven’t had enough to do by this point.
