Welcome to the river! It’s your home in the upcoming role-playing life simulation with building elements. (Our Life on Water) become the river preacher of a community that inhabits a floating village.
We tell you about the aspects of the setting and how close or far away the title is from our known reality.
What is Our Life on Water?
At its core, Our Life on Water is a life simulation with role-playing and construction elements. You explore the river landscape, accompanied by a story and plenty of interaction with villagers. Meanwhile, you expand the village. The survival-like activities include:
- Collecting bamboo and garbage
- Recycling
- River house construction
- Fishing and agriculture
- Breeding animals
Everything on and under the water: You can use a boat to get around, and of course you can swim and even dive to explore the underwater world.
Setting, is this fantasy?
No and yes, and somehow not. Let’s explain:
Our Life on Water is set in Sahakom. This is a fictional country, but is based on the real Mekong river region. There are also real floating villages there. If you would like to know more about the region, you can find information here at Planet Wissen.
What role does the player take on? You come to the village to ultimately take on the role of the river preacher. As such, you are the mentor of the community. In the turmoil of the modern world, you turn to the river spirits together with your companion Yla, a talking otter.
A touch of mysticism in a temple landscape: Even though the scenario is firmly rooted in reality, the developers sprinkle plenty of mythical elements inspired by local legends into the game.
Known problems: You are not in a peaceful, carefree kitsch version of Southeast Asia. Apart from all the mysticism, there will also be familiar problems such as environmental pollution or changes to the river landscape due to human intervention, for example the construction of a dam.
The community: Village life should play an important role. There will be council meetings and social events. And you will enter into relationships of all kinds with the other community members.
Who is developing the title? Different Tales from Poland. They have previously released the rather unknown niche titles (Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Heart of the Forest) or the (Wanderlust series) for example. Their focus has always been on primarily narrative titles that tend to operate with still images or simple animations in terms of graphics.
When will Our Life on Water be released? We don’t know exactly. The trailer refers to 2024 as the release date.
What do you think about Our Life on Water? Do you like the title at first glance? Have the developers discovered a setting that has rarely or never been used before? What do you expect from the role-playing life simulation? Have you already unleashed your houseboat? Or would you rather drop anchor straight away? Do the simple character models bother you?
