Lego releases the classic arcade game as a kit you can (almost) really play with. A product announcement.

Hey, kids from the 80s: do you know who Blinky, Pinky, Inky and Clyde are? No, Tinky-Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa and Po from the Teletubbies aren’t. Think for a moment? Of course! The four of them are the spiritual adversaries who are getting in the way of the most famous yellow pill in video game history: in the classic arcade game Pac-Man!

To celebrate the 43rd anniversary of the original Pac-Man arcade game, Lego is teaming up with Bandai Namco to release a special kit. (This one looks like a Pac-Man arcade machine).

The key data for Pac-Man by Lego

Get some of the key facts about the Lego Pac-Man set below:

  • 2,650 Clamp bricks: Anyone who has ever stepped on a clamp brick with a bare foot knows what pain means. But put together, the nearly 2,700 bricks make for fun in bags (and with iconic retro gaming charm).
  • Nearly 270 euros: The price tag is a statement. For that, you also get Pac-Man and two of his witty adversaries on a pedestal (the figures can be rotated). Also nice to look at: A Lego brick lights up when you drop a coin into the coin slot. And inside the big slot machine sits a little Lego woman who is currently playing a mini version of the legendary machine;
  • Available from 4.06.2023: If you are a Lego VIP member, you can buy the product as early as 1.06.2023.

What does the Lego community think?

In the comment columns of YouTubers like (Tiago Catarino) or (BrickinNick) the Pac-Man set is euphorically received. The commentators outdo each other in their enthusiasm.

On (Reddit) on the other hand, more critical voices also get involved, criticising the retail price of 270 euros. For example, mcmuffinmcdouble writes:

“I don’t like the price, but I love the concept. “

Justspartan17 agrees with the criticism, and sums it up in scrawny words:

“The next big and expensive Lego set. “

Besides: real entertainment these days doesn’t take place in arcades, but mostly on the couch at home. With Netflix, Disney Plus, Amazon Prime – or with a library card and DVD player.
Did you know that Pac-Man’s iconic yellow colour was inspired by Lego bricks? At least that’s what the game’s creator, Taru Iwatani, claims. Do you personally have fun, games and enjoyment with cling bricks? Which set is the crown jewel of your Lego collection? Feel free to write us about it in the comments!
