Apex Legends Mobile

After PC and consoles, Apex Legends ventures onto a new platform. The battle royale shooter will be released as a separate version for Android and iOS.

Where Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds and Fortnite have been for a long time, Apex Legends now also wants to go: To the smartphones of this world. Rumors and hints about a mobile version of the Battle Royale game have been circulating in the past, but only now are the cards on the table.

However, Apex Legends Mobile will not be a simple port, but a standalone version. Developer Respawn Entertainment is even taking care of it personally.

Apex Legends on mobile: That’s the plan

Independent version in this case means that Apex Legends Mobile will be created independently of the PC and console version. This has the advantage that the implementation is optimized from the start in terms of control and performance for Android and iOS phones. There should therefore not be any adaptation difficulties.

However, the plan also has a disadvantage to some extent. Crossplay, as already exists between PC and consoles, will not exist. Instead, mobile players will be among themselves and get their own matchmaking.

Still Free 2 Play: The mobile version of Apex Legends will also not cost anything in its basic version. However, there will also be microtransactions for cosmetic items and a separate Battle Pass. There are no details on this yet.

Beta test starts small: As usual with smartphone games, Apex Legends Mobile will first be tested in smaller regions. A first beta for Android devices is scheduled to start this month in India and the Philippines. Gradually, the developers want to expand the test regions and enable iOS support.

Pre-registration not yet possible: You cannot pre-register for Apex Legends Mobile on Google Play and in the Appstore at this time. However, this will be activated in the course of the year.

What’s next for the PC?

Meanwhile, the PC version of Apex Legends is heading towards the start of Season 9, which may bring some huge changes. The first insight into the new season is provided by the story trailer “Northstar”, which the developers released today. It focuses on the new legend Valkyrie, who benefits from the remains of a titan:

Season 9 – or as the developers call it – Season Legacy also features a new weapon: the Bocek Bow, which is supposed to deal high damage at medium range. In addition, the map Olympus is infested with a plague that spreads its roots everywhere. Respawn doesn’t give more details on the official website yet.

The new season for Apex Legends will start on May 4, 2021, and until then, the shooter is still indulging in the Season 8 finale with a special event where the rules of the game change every few days. Such events are one of the reasons why the multiplayer shooter is currently so popular.

The developers certainly want to continue this high with the upcoming season. However, only the next few weeks will show whether this will work. After all, there is still a bit of time before Season 9 starts.
