Arc Raiders: no more Free2play, but public test phase instead

Arc Raiders was planned as a Free2Play title, but now the shooter is to be sold for 40 US dollars on release. Producer Aleksander Grøndal explained this as follows:

During development, it became increasingly clear to us that a premium model fits better with the experience we are building with ARC Raiders. This change allows us to focus on what really matters in this game – creating an engaging, balanced and replayable action-survival experience.

Originally Arc Raiders was supposed to launch in 2022, but was postponed by a few years. With the release in 2025, there are still a few months to wait for the full version, but there is one fly in the ointment: You should be able to test the shooter as early as this fall. A test phase via Steam is planned for the period from October 24 to 27.

This is what Arc Raiders is all about

Arc Raiders is set in a post-apocalyptic world in which humans have taken refuge in an underground colony. The surface is teeming with so-called ARC machines, which turn the search for resources into a risky struggle for survival.

As if that wasn’t enough, everyone is naturally closest to themselves. As a raider, you try to prevail against other players and obtain the coveted resources you need to support your own colony.

You can take on quests and improve your equipment to take on your opponents. You can fight your way through alone or in a team.

Arc Raiders will be released2025 for PC, Xbox Series X/S and PS5Embark Studios, which is behind the new extraction shooter, was co-founded in 2018 by Patrick Söderlund, one of the former Battlefield lead developers.
