The Last of Us is one of the best Playstation exclusive titles in history. Originally released in 2013 for the PS3, it was followed by a remastered version for the PlayStation 4 in 2014. Most recently, the sequel The Last of Us Part 2 was released in 2020, as the last major highlight of the PS4 era. Now rumours are piling up that a The Last of Us PS5 remake is in the works and is set to be released later this year.
Will The Last of Us Remake be a remake of Ellie and Joel’s adventures on the PS5?
As industry insider Jeff Grubb revealed on the Kinda Funny Gamescast podcast, The Last of Us remake is likely awaiting us for the holiday season this winter. Previously, the news portal (Bloomberg) had reported that a remake of the action adventure game in a post-apocalyptic setting was in the works and would be coming to Sony’s current console, Playstation 5.
The development is said to be done by Naughty Dog veterans themselves, who are currently also working on a The Last of Us Part multiplayer mode. It’s quite possible that at the upcoming Playstation State of Play, we’ll not only get news about God of War Ragnarok, but also a The Last of Us remake. Another bomb title has already been confirmed for this year with Hogwarts Legacy. Jeff Grubb, at least, is confident that we won’t have to wait much longer for an official announcement and imminent release.
