The first reactions to Dune 2 are hitting the web and to speak of enthusiasm would almost be an understatement

Dune 2 opens in German cinemas on February 29, 2024 and recently surprised everyone at the world premiere with the reveal of another star in the cast. In the meantime, the first reactions from those who have already seen director Denis Villeneuve’s blockbuster are hitting the web

Excitement is almost an understatement Many are already celebrating Dune 2 as Villeneuve’s masterpiece and are even comparing the film to Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy

To warm up, let’s first watch the final trailer together:

“Spectacular”, “masterful”, “perfect “

If you’re a Dune fan, we have to warn you: once you’ve read the first statements about the second part of the planned trilogy, you’ll probably find it even harder to wait for the movie to be released. But well, you probably wouldn’t want it any other way

I don’t think it comes as a shock to anyone that I absolutely loved Dune2. Incredible movie craft. Brilliant music. The entire cast was excellent. My only complaint is that I wish it was longer. No kidding. The movie is 2 hours and 40 minutes(?) and I would have been happy to see another hour.

These were the words of Collider editor Steve Weintraub He is not alone in his opinion, quite the opposite: Eric Eisenberg from CinemaBlend even describes Dune 2 as a “magical experience” and “breathtaking”.

Want a few more superlatives? You can have it. Film critic Griffin Schiller describes Dune 2 as Denis Villeneuve’s magnum opus and the definitive sci-fi epic of an entire generation – an opinion shared by Variety editor Jazz Tangcay

Dune 2 in the same league as The Lord of the Rings?

Dune: Part Two receives a very special kind of praise from Jordan Farley, editor at Total Film. According to him, the second part is even more haunting, tangible and emotional than its predecessor and even puts the film on a par with Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy:

So if you’ve been missing a few good reasons to run to your local movie theater at the end of February, you may now be convinced.

How excited are you for Dune 2? Will you go straight to the cinema on the first day or would you prefer to wait for the first votes from the audience to be able to better assess whether all the advance praise is really justified? How did you like the first part of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune trilogy? Let us know in the comments!
