Actually, Assassin’s Creed Shadows was supposed to be released in November 2024, but now the game is being delayed by several months. This has never happened in the series’ history.
These are bumpy times for Ubisoft. After it was recently announced how disappointing the sales figures for Star Wars Outlaws are developing, some dark rumors are now circulating about the fall blockbuster Assassin’s Creed Shadows. According to insiders, the first play events for the Japanese Assassin’s Creed have been canceled, and the appearance at the Tokyo Game Show 2024 has also been canceled – and now we know why.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is postponed by several months. The open-world game was originally supposed to be released at the beginning of November 2024, but the new release date is February 14, 2025, so it’s likely to put a strain on one or two love relationships. In the official statement from Ubisoft via X, it says, translated literally:
Assassin’s Creed Shadows will now release February 14, 2025. pic.twitter.com/J2ah7kkytW

Dear Players,
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is a dream project for us; transporting the series to feudal Japan for the first time with many new features that we are developing with our target audience in mind, such as parkour or the revised stealth system, made possible by new technology, firmly rooted in a beautiful and immersive world.
We are talking about a very ambitious new step for the franchise, a rich experience that we experience through the eyes of two main characters – but we now realize that we need more time to give this experience the necessary polish.
Therefore, we have decided to postpone the release date to February 14, 2025. The game will be released on a wide range of platforms, including directly on Steam. In addition, all pre-orders will be refunded and all future pre-orders will receive the first DLC expansion for free
We are aware that this news is disappointing for you, […] but we firmly believe that we are acting in the best interests of our players here. […]
There has never been a delay like this in the series’ history. The last Assassin’s Creed Mirage even came out earlier than originally planned. Only Unity was delayed by two weeks almost 10 years ago; even then, the first DLC was given away to everyone – even without pre-ordering. This time, you only get it if you pre-order.
With this delay, February 2025 will be an extremely busy month for us here at the editorial office, too. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Civilization 7 and Assassin’s Creed Shadows will all be released within a few days of each other. So you’ll have a damn tricky decision to make; and on top of that, it’s Valentine’s Day. Jeez.
