After the failure of Quartz, Ubisoft ventures into the next NFT experiment. This time with physical AC characters that are digitally linked to the blockchain.
Ubisoft has new NFTs on offer – but wait, didn’t they say the push was scrapped? True, but this time it’s not about Ubisoft Quartz, which was going to sell you exclusive digital cosmetics for Ghost Recon: Breakpoint and has since been shut down.
Instead, Ubisoft is introducing a new promotion aimed at fans of Assassin’s Creed: they are selling customised characters along with their “soul” – i.e. an NFT.
What’s behind Ubisoft’s new NFT offering?
Together with the company (Integral Reality Labs) Ubisoft has developed so-called “Smart Collectibles”. Specifically, these are customised Assassin’s Creed figures in a transparent plastic cube and an NFT to go with it, which is supposed to prove on the polygon blockchain that the unique figure belongs to you.

These figures have different “rarity levels” and you manage your collection via a specially designed companion app that aims to give you a “rewarding collecting experience”. At least that’s the idea, because so far the “Smart Collectibles” have only been announced but not yet released. A launch date has not yet been released.
According to the official Twitter account, fans are supposed to secure the limited “Digital Souls” of these figures (i.e. the NFTs) via a Marketplace, after which they can customise the figures via app (which is referred to as “forging your character’s soul” – and they then go into 3D printing.
The NFTs are not related to the games, so buyers won’t get any in-game benefits from them. However, the companion app itself is supposed to function like a small game in which you unlock achievements and loot boxes with your characters. These will contain further cosmetics for even more characters. It is not yet known how much the products will cost.
What do you think of the new “Smart Collectibles” for Assassin’s Creed? Are you generally interested in such hybrid collectible figures or do you reject everything that has to do with NFTs? Or will you wait and see what the finished product looks like? Feel free to share your thoughts with us in the comments below the article!
