The Setting of Atomfall

In “Atomfall”, players take on the role of a survivor of a nuclear disaster and must solve the mystery of the accident at the Windscale nuclear power plant. The announcement trailer impressively showcases the game’s folk horror aesthetic. It offers disturbing insights into the game world, which is set in the gloomy and desolate Casterfell Woods. A burning pyre, a ghostly Wicker Man and a ringing telephone booth can be seen in the trailer. These clues point to a secret that players must uncover through exploration and combat.

The game is set in a dark mixture of science fiction, folk horror and elements of the Cold War. Players scour restricted military zones, explore underground bunkers and venture into pagan ruins full of secrets and dangers. Along the way, they meet bizarre characters and mysterious organizations that have been isolated from the outside world for years and are often not friendly. With an arsenal of ranged and melee weapons, players not only have to fight, but also survive.

Inspiration & Gameplay

According to Rebellion, the inspiration for “Atomfall” comes from various classic British science fiction series. These include “The Day of the Triffids”, early episodes of “Doctor Who” and “The Quatermass Experiment”. These influences are reflected in a dark, eerily familiar world.
In this setting, gathering resources plays an important role. We can obtain these important items through exploration, conversationsand battles Looting supplies and using a metal detector can also prove useful. Lightweight RPG elements and skill trees allow them to customize their character and develop new survival strategies.
