A player shows how Baldur’s Gate 3 reacts to sometimes nonsensical decisions

Baldur’s Gate 3 requires you to make a whole host of decisions that influence the course of your adventure. The game gives you a great deal of freedom. This sometimes means that you can also do a lot of things “wrong.”

However, Larian has built in nets and false bottoms at one point or another – even for those who are determined to sabotage the main story with particularly “wise” decisions. This was discovered by YouTuberProxy Gate Tacticianwho unlocked a hidden mini-quest as a result.

Winning is impossible without the items

Be warned of story spoilers before you read on:&nbspIf you haven’t played Baldur’s Gate 3 or its third act yet and want to be surprised, it’s better not to read on.

The Netherstones are collected in the last third of the role-playing game. The stones are used to control the Elder Brain.Winning without the stones is impossible.

However, as a player you are completely free to decide where you keep the stones. Theoretically, you can store the stones in a barrel and then throw it into a river -which immediately turns you into a mind flayer and ends the game prematurely.

Proxy Gate Tactician now wanted to find out how the game reacts when he “loses” the stones in a more creative way. For example, if he drops the stones in a place that players only visit once in the entire game

The game does not end prematurely

The Iron Throne is one such place. Players only visit this underwater dungeon once before it explodes. To the YouTuber’s great surprise, he can place the stones there and is not hindered by the game. And the game does not end prematurely either.

Instead, there are several mini-quests that allow you to get your hands on the stones after all. The quests always take place in the south-eastern docks of the lower city of Baldur’s Gate.

  1. In the area, you will automatically be attacked by a group of Sahuagin. If you have sunk the stones under water beforehand, one of the killed enemies will carry them with them later.
  2. If you have (accidentally) killed the enemies beforehand, the stones will be in the possession of the fisherman Old Troutman. He stands at the docks and will sell them to you for a paltry three gold apiece.
  3. If, for whatever reason, you have already killed Old Troutman, you will find the stones in a dead fish that has washed ashore.

Stop the group before they escape

After the Iron Throne, the YouTuber tries the Steel Guard Foundry. This is also located in the Undercity and can only be visited once. You can drop the stones there before the foundry is blown up

However, Larian also has a contingency plan for this. South of the burning factory, a group of goblins appears with the stones in their possession. The players have five turns to stop the group before the goblins disappear.

If you let the group escape, you will be turned into a mind flayer and the game ends.

There is a loophole

This alone shows the attention to detail with which Larian has worked to find a solution for even the most nonsensical decisions. Especially as the above decisions are repeatedly met with angry comments from the Emperor

But then Proxy Gate Tactician does find a loophole. You can annoy a djinni at the fair in Rivington.

Or he teleports you into the jungle with a flick of his finger, which you have to find your way out of. Once you’ve made it out, you’ll never find your way back.

If you drop the stones here and leave the jungle, the Emperor will not contact you. Nor does the game give you a quest to retrieve the stones – unlike the Iron Throne.

In this case, at a certain point in the game you simply can’t get any further. You need all three stones to reach the morph pool. This is where the decisive battle with the Elder Brain takes place

While the djinni “only” teleports you into the jungle with a flick of the finger, one of the coolest villains in the game can wipe you out without further ado. Two players recently experienced this.

Their Honor Run ended abruptly in the third act in a tragic and unusual way. You can read the full story in the accompanying text, which we have included in the link box.
