Baldur’s Gate 3 may come out early, but Early Access buyers lose a big advantage

Larian has officially announced that early access of the Digital Deluxe Edition will no longer be implemented.

It is not often that a highly anticipated game is released earlier than originally announced. Baldur’s Gate 3 however, has implemented just that. However, it has now been officially revealed that this shift forward also comes at a price.

As Larian (in the current community update) announced the planned advance access for owners of the Digital Deluxe Edition has been cancelled Actually, everyone with this edition could have started playing a whole 72 hours earlier – at least in the first act. So that would have been a whopping three days of early access, with a release on 31 July instead of 3 August

No more advance access … on the PC

According to Larian, the communication around the Digital Deluxe Editions on PS5 and PC suffered after there were a few complications due to the postponement of both release dates (the PS5 version is now released later), which were just not communicated well. For this reason, it was again clearly emphasised that 72-hour advance access will not be possible on the PC.

However, if you have bought the Digital Deluxe Edition  on PS5, you will still be able to play in 72 hours earlier Then the release will be postponed for you from the 6th to the 3rd of September

Of course, PC players will still be able to enjoy all the other Deluxe benefits. These include:

  • the Divinity Bard Pack
  • an exclusive dice theme
  • the Treasures from Rivellonpackage
  • an adventurer’s bag
  • additional digital bonus content

How to get the edition anyway?

On the PlayStation 5 you can easily pre-order the Digital Deluxe Edition and then pay 80 Euros instead of 70. On the PC you won’t have the opportunity to do so, at least not yet. And there’s a simple reason for that!

On the PC, the edition is free if you have already bought Baldur’s Gate 3 in the Early Access version. On Steam, you can pay 60 euros now and get all the above-mentioned content for free as soon as the game is released. However, you will have to do without the 72 hours of advance access, but you can play the game now – just keep in mind that your save file will be incompatible with the release version.

What is your opinion on this? Despite the shift forward, would you have liked to play in three days earlier or is it not that important to you? Write us your opinions about it in the comments.
