Baldur’s Gate 3 is not only coming out early, Larian has now announced what new content will be added on August 3. A hell of a lot.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is just whipping out one surprise attack after another! Not only did development studio Larian announce that the role-playing game is coming out completely unexpectedly earlier than originally thought – no, the amount of new additions to the full-fledged release also seems grotesque.

In a new community update, Larian let their trousers down and announced what new content will be added to the release on August 3 and also how extensive the game will be overall.

New classes and races

You already have a large selection of playable races and classes to choose from in Baldur’s Gate 3. After Early Access, the selection will be even bigger. Larian has announced a completely new class, lots of subclasses and two new races.

New races:

  • Halbork: This mix of humans and orcs has great physical capabilities. They hit especially hard and take a lot of punishment.
  • Dragonborn: Huge lizardmen descended from dragons of various colours. Depending on the lineage, you have different resistances and a different fire breath. There are 10 different lineages in total.

New classes:

  • Monk: These mostly weaponless melee fighters are perfect martial artists who develop almost magical powers with the help of ki. The monk has three subclasses – Open Hand, Shadow and Four Elements.

With this addition, you will have a full 11 races and 31 sub-races to choose from at release. You can also choose from 12 classes with 46 subclasses. So a lot of new subclasses for already existing classes have been announced. These include:

  • Druid
    • Spore Druid
  • Ranger
    • Gloom Stalker
  • Fighter
    • Champion
  • Rascal
    • Assassin
  • Wizard
    • Storm Wizard
  • Bard
    • Swordbard
  • Witch Master
    • Archfey
  • Paladin
    • Revenge
  • Cleric
    • Knowledge
    • Nature
    • Storm
    • War
  • Magician
    • Summoning
    • Clairvoyance
    • Enchantment
    • Necromancy
    • Illusion
    • Transformation

More comprehensive than The Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones

Even in Early Access you can spend dozens of hours if you want to complete Act 1. For the release, however, a lot more content is waiting for you. As Larian announces, the complete game will have 174 hours of pure cinematics, which is twice as long as all seasons of Game of Thrones combined. Plus, there’s so much dialogue text you might as well read through the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy three times.

This does not mean, of course, that you will see exactly 174 hours of cutscenes in your playthrough. But Baldur’s Gate 3 also offers many alternative conversations and paths, which adds up to a lot. There will also be many more levels, spells and other stuff. Here is an overview:

  • The main game offers a total of 12 levels, with all the spells and abilities included.
  • A new companion has been announced, the Tiefling barbarian Karlach. This means a total of 10 companions are confirmed, 6 six of which you can also choose as your character.
  • There are 22 new talents coming into the game, including actor or lucky. In total, there are 37 such feats at release.
  • 51 more spells will be added to the game at release. There will then be over 600 spells in total.
  • Two more difficulty levels are to be added to the game. Story Mode if you want to take it easy and Hardcore Mode if you want to get killed by a goblin yourself.

On July 7, Larian will host a presumably final Panel from Hell stream before the release, in which many of the aforementioned innovations will be examined in detail.

What do you think about all these announcements? Are you surprised by how much new content is really coming to the game now and have you been expecting it all along? Post it in the comments!
