Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 6

Larian’s ambitious role-playing game will get a new update very soon. Patch 6 brings a new class as well as a more than unusual new weapon.

Update 14 October 2021: Today marks the official launch of developer Larian Studios’ biggest update to date. If you want to be there live, you can watch the unveiling of Patch 6 in the livestream.

When and where does it start? The stream will start on 14 October 2021 at 6pm German time. You can watch it either on Steam or on Twitch:

Original message: In a perfect world, Baldur’s Gate 3 would be close to its release by now. Actually, the developer studio Larian planned about one year of Early Access. But in the meantime the release has been postponed to 2022. Instead, the Early Access version will continue to be upgraded with new updates.

After players were rewarded for good role-playing with Patch 5 in July, Larian has now announced the imminent release of Patch 6. The studio has also provided some initial information on the content. We summarise everything worth knowing in this article.

When will Patch 6 be released?

Larian has not yet announced an exact release date for Patch 6. However, the update should be released in the next few weeks. So far there has only been the pre-patch announcement. In the case of Update 5, there were exactly two weeks between its announcement and the actual release. Accordingly, a release on 20 October would be conceivable.

We took a look at how good Baldur’s Gate 3 is in Early Access in general right at the time of release and summarised it in a video.

What new features does patch 6 bring?

Exact patch notes have not yet been provided. In its announcement, however, the developer studio already announced two innovations that we can definitely expect. On the one hand you can look forward to a new class and on the other hand the developers promised a new … Wait, let me read that again … a new salami sword.

  • What’s the deal with the class? At the start of Early Access, only six classes were available, the druid came as the seventh class with patch 4. If all the basic classes from DnD 5 are to be included by the finished game, Larian will still have to add barbarians, bards, paladins, monks and wizards. Which ones exactly is still open.
  • Salami swords, are you serious? Yeah, we didn’t make that up. With Patch 6, players can equip salami sausages as one-handed weapons. This little gag came about after Larian’s big larp event, during the last patch reveal. Here, the chat could decide how developers should behave in costumes in certain situations. One decision was to poke an armour with a salami.

How big will the patch be?

Salami swords and a new classes are not all that Update 6 brings. In fact, it will be the biggest patch Baldur’s Gate 3 has ever received. Larian also already warned that you better free up some space on your hard drive.

The patch will be a whopping 60 gigabytes in size.

When will there be more details?

In the announcement for the new patch, a new panel From Hell was also promised. This is what Larian calls the big live streams in which they present the content of their new updates in detail and interact with their viewers in a creative way. The Panel From Hell for Update 6 does not yet have a date. Last time, the panel took place a week after the announcement. So we expect to stream on 14 October.

However, the new class will be unveiled earlier. Namely, during EGX 2021, one of the biggest games shows in the UK. The event runs from 7 to 10 October in London.

What happens to the scores?

Since this is such a major update, older game saves will not be compatible afterwards. If you don’t want to update and prefer to continue playing your existing game, you can do that too. However, you will have to play on a different beta branch.

How to switch the version of Baldur’s Gate 3:

  • Right-click on Baldur’s Gate 3 in your stems library and select Properties:
  • In the next menu navigate to the item Betas.
  • Click in the upper box to expand it.
  • You can now choose the version that is still compatible with your saved games.

Larian also notes that you should deactivate all mods if you want to download update 6.
