Even after over a year and hundreds of hours of play, players are still discovering new things in Larian’s role-playing game

Do you know a bird called Topaz or have you been carrying around a shiny key since the first act of Baldur’s Gate 3? No? Don’t worry, many other players are also unaware of the feathered creature or the door opener, despite over a hundred hours of gameplay.

A key without a keyhole

Reddit user Pandattak is one of the players who didn’t know for a long time what the shiny key from Act 1 could be used for.

In a post, he confessed that he only discovered the corresponding chest after more than 400 hours:

TIL after 400+ hours what the bird’s key was for

What kind of bird is that?Topaz is one of the animals that can be found in the hollow in the Druid’s Grove. The bird is sitting a good distance to the right of the bear taking a nap on the elevator.

In its nest you will find all sorts of glittering things, including a shiny key. You can’t just grab it, though, because that would be theft and the druids would be pretty mad at you.

The key can either be stolen from the Hidden Place or you can make the bird hand over the key by using the Speak with Animals spell.

Finding the chest to the key seems to be a completely different feat. Because although the small boxis right next to the nest on top of the ruinsit took Pandattak many hours to discover it.

As the comments show, he is not alone in this.Crazy_Cat_Lady_1992explains: “700 hours and I’ve never seen this little chest before.”

Reddit usereabevellagoes one better and writes: “I have over 1,600 hours and I didn’t know there was a chest. ”

How do you get to the treasure?

The ledge of the ruin is too high for a jump, but spells such as “Mist Step” or “Fly” are a simple solution. If you want to be a bit more creative, you could build a ladder out of crates or conjure up a “magic hand” and give the crate a push.

Pandattak only foundsome gold and a ring in the chest, other players report at least a few potions, scrolls or some arrows as loot.

Maybe many simply miss the key because they can pick most locks with Astarion. Or they let Karlach throw chests against a wall. Smoke powder bombs, for example, are also inelegant but effective. In Baldur’s Gate 3, there are far more exciting options than using a key to open something.
