‎Battlefield 2042 All about beta, release, gameplay and more‎

The Battlefield 2042 open beta begins in September. We provide you with all the info on the start, registration and what else you should know.

Battlefield 2042 will no longer be released on 22 October 2021, but will be delayed by a few weeks. But in the course of an open beta you will have the opportunity to play the new DICE shooter before the release. But when exactly will the beta start and how can you participate? We summarise all the latest information!

Registration: How do I take part in the beta?

To participate in the Battlefield 2042 open beta, you have two options:

  • Early-Access: To have earlier access to the beta, you have to pre-order Battlefield 2042. Then the client will be unlocked for you earlier
  • Open Access: Here every player can participate without a key. Just look for the client via Steam or Origin as soon as the runway is free.

Beta start: When can I play the beta?

What does EA say?

The official Twitter account of Battlefield posted a meme on September 1 alluding to the long wait and the impatience of fans. Apparently, it remains a September date – but they point out with a wink that September has 30 days as we all know.

Andy McNamara, EA’s head of communications for shooters, is at least a little more precise. They are working very hard to deliver a great experience and plan to provide more info in September.

Also in Battlefield’s release post on Twitter, it says that info on the open beta should still be coming in September. However, it does not explicitly say that the test phase will still start this month. A postponement does not seem unlikely to us.

What do insiders say?

Industry insider and well-known leaker Tom Henderson first predicted the beta launch for 22 September. He cited secret invitations from EA to influencers and press for a play session with Battlefield 2042. But now he claims that beta preview access will be delayed until 6 October 2021. The open beta is then scheduled to begin on October 8 Henderson does not name a source for this, but he proved to be very well informed so far

A further indication is provided by the stores: Because in the PlayStation Shop as well as in Steam and in the Microsoft Store, preparations are apparently being made for the imminent start of the open beta.

Update from September 3
: Video game journalist Jeff Grubb has commented on the alleged beta data of Battlefield 2042 (via videogameschronicle). According to him, the information that Tom Henderson shared with the public is correct – that is, that the open beta was supposed to start on September 22 and 24, 2021, respectively.

How credible is this? The date seems quite realistic, there would be enough time for the obligatory press event under NDA as well as a marketing phase with beta trailers and the preload. Henderson has mostly been right with his predictions so far and has a proven track record of getting info from developer circles.

Duration: How long will the beta run?

It is not yet known until when you can play the open beta. The Battlefield 5 beta ran for a total of nine days, but the first two were only open to pre-orderers. Presumably Battlefield 2042 will also be playable for about a week.

Content: What does the beta offer?

What exactly you will get to play in the September Battlefield 2042 beta is currently unknown. We will of course update this article as soon as possible as developer DICE provides new information.

Usually, several different modes are playable and you can earn exclusive cosmetics when you try out the beta. At least that was the case with Battlefield 5.

Platforms: Where will the beta be released?
Like the final game, you’ll be able to play the Battlefield beta on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. On the LastGen consoles, only 64-player lobbies are supported, but on all others you can also play with 128 players.

On PC you have the choice between several platforms: Steam, Origin and the Epic Game Store. No matter on which device or launcher you play Battlefield, crossplay is possible – however, the LastGen versions can only be linked with each other. You can also choose to play only with other PC players.

Release: When will Battlefield 2042 be released?
The release of Battlefield 2042 is planned for 19 November 2021 after a short postponement, pre-orderers of the Gold and Ultimate Editions can get their hands on it a few days earlier, the start of the preload is not yet known – we expect you to be able to start downloading around 10 November.

So the beta will probably take place a few weeks before the launch. This doesn’t give the developers much time for major changes, but at least it should be possible to take balancing feedback from the beta into the final game.
