In the Steam top sellers, Battlefield 5 suddenly shoots to number 1, while there is no sign of its successor. Why is that?
The Steam bestsellers are always good for surprises. And this week, too, a game is suddenly at the top of the charts that you wouldn’t necessarily expect to be there – Battlefield 5. There’s no sign of Battlefield 2042, on the other hand, even though it’s already being released in six weeks. We collect possible reasons.
Fueled by Steam sale and more
The fact that Battlefield 5 is the top seller of the past week is probably partly due to a current sale – until 8 September 2021, you can get the game 90 percent off, for just six euros.
Such offers always kick games back into the charts, and you can see this particularly often with The Witcher 3. Nevertheless, it’s impressive what BF5 has achieved, because Steam doesn’t count the number of copies sold, but rather the revenue generated.
And the current promotion is not the only way to play Battlefield 5 for little money. It’s also in EA Play, which costs 4 euros a month. Are you losing track of Game Pass, subscriptions and the like? We can help you

So the sale is probably not the only reason for the success. And what is almost more exciting – there is no trace of Battlefield 2042 in the charts, although the pre-sale has already started. No less than two other games are in the top sellers this time through pre-order versions alone, namely the role-playing game Tales of Arise and the loot shooter Destiny 2 with the big DLC The Witch Queen.
So where is Battlefield 2042? It’s likely that pre-orders for the upcoming shooter are spread across multiple platforms. Battlefield 5, for example, is not available in the Epic Store, but Battlefield 2042 is.
And maybe many players will wait to buy until they get to see more than 90 seconds of gameplay or can try it out for themselves in the upcoming beta. So far, the developers have been surprisingly coy with gameplay scenes

What else is happening in the Steam Charts
The massive role-playing game Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous rises strongly to 4 in its release week.

And another well-known newcomer is currently celebrating a great success: No Man’s Sky is an exceptional phenomenon in terms of comebacks anyway. The next big update has just been announced, in which you can even become the mayor of alien cities.
