The internet is awash with leaks from Battlefield 2042’s alpha, so we explain what the new images and videos reveal about the shooter’s gameplay.

Shooter fans who have already taken a look on Reddit today will already know: Although participation in Battlefield 2042’s Technical Alpha is taking place under strict NDA conditions, a veritable flood of leaks is pouring through the net.

And this is the big problem: because of the masses of content alone, it is difficult to keep track and filter out the really important information about the multiplayer colossus. Therefore, we have summarised the most important findings from the leaked material for you.

What do the leaks reveal about Battlefield 2042?

An important disclaimer first: Please keep in mind that all information below refers to the technical alpha. A lot can still change before the final release!

The graphics in particular are the subject of much discussion. Many fans find what is shown simply disappointing and wonder where the previously shown splendid graphics of BF2042 have suddenly gone. Since this is a technical test, the level of detail is severely limited, textures and animations are missing and the performance is not optimised. In addition, the alpha represents an old version of the game and is not representative of the current state of development.

Missing animations: When you get into a tank, there is no animation. Rather, you sort of pop in and out. In the predecessors, there were sometimes long animations when getting in and out of the tank. It is possible, of course, that the missing animation will be integrated into the beta.

-Plus-System as a comfort function: The new Plus-System can be seen in action for the first time. With it, you can quickly change your weapon attachments. It’s surprisingly quick: if we choose a silencer, it’s already attached to the barrel and ready for use in the next moment!

Call-In-System makes you mobile: The Call-In-System can also be seen in action for the first time. With the help of a kind of tablet, you can quickly request a new vehicle to your position in the middle of the battle

-Melee kills in third person: Another innovation concerns executions in close combat. These are now played in an outside perspective, as is the case in Apex Legends or Call of Duty: Warzone, so that you can see your character yourself.

A lot of traffic on the map: In Battlefield 2042 there could be real destruction orgies with regard to vehicles. The maximum number of vehicles active on the map at the same time is extremely high – some screenshots also show that almost 40 vehicles are allowed, 16 of which are light (for example the Polaris ATV) and 16 heavy variants (such as a tank) as well as additional aircraft. And of course the robot dog is also part of the game.

– Divided opinion on destruction physics: There are divided opinions on the quality of the destruction effects. According to industry insider and leaker Tom Henderson, the level of destruction is often compared to Battlefield 3. However, many fans on Reddit are extremely enthusiastic about demonstrably player-caused craters and debris fields. Apparently, the basic structure of a building always remains standing, but the outer elements seem to be able to be destroyed in detail. An earlier tech demo already whetted the appetite for more:

Verbal ping system: As in Battlefield 5, your Specialists call out some pings aloud to inform the surrounding team members. Thanks to the individual voices of each character, this is supposed to give a big boost to the atmosphere in particular. By the way, the recently revealed fifth specialist is an old series acquaintance.

There are apparently four types of ammunition: light, medium, heavy and armour piercing.

Satisfying Gunplay: Judging by the weapons available in the alpha, the balancing in terms of TTK (time-to-kill) is said to be very satisfying already.

The number of necessary hits is credible according to many testers.

You can aim during a slide: A small but very subtle change concerns the slide animation. Compared to Battlefield 5, in 2042 you can still aim sideways during a slide and thus defend yourself better.
