Sign up: How do I participate in the beta?
To participate in the Battlefield 2042 open beta, you have two options:
- Early-Access: To have earlier access to the beta, you need to pre-order Battlefield 2042 or be a subscriber to EA Play. Then the client will be unlocked for you earlier
- Open Access: Here every player can participate without a key. Just look for the client via Steam or Origin as soon as the runway is free.
Content: What does the beta offer?
The beta includes a Conquest map and four playable Specialists, as well as a selection of vehicles and weapons from the final game. Included are:
- Map: Orbital, a medium sized map with rocket launch pad
- Game Mode: Conquest, the classic battle for flag points
- Specialists: Casper, Boris, Falck, Mackay (read more about their skills)
Some systems have been specially adapted for the beta. For example, equipment is already unlocked that must first be earned in the launch version so that you can test as many weapons, gadgets and vehicles as possible.
Earned content from the beta will explicitly not be carried over into the final game, so everyone will start at level 1 without unlocks at release!
System requirements of the beta
The developers have also announced the system requirements. In addition to the specifications here, broadband internet and DirectX 12 are urgently needed. You can check if the beta is running on your system here:
Platforms: Where can I play the beta?
Where can I play the beta?
Like the final game, you can play the Battlefield beta on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. On the LastGen consoles only 64-player lobbies are supported, on all others you can also play with 128 players.
On PC you have the choice between several platforms: Steam, Origin and the Epic Game Store. No matter on which device or launcher you play Battlefield, crossplay is possible – however, the LastGen versions can only be linked with each other. You can also choose to only match with other PC players if you wish.
Cross-progression confirmed: EA has announced that all unlocks, skins, badges and in-game purchases will be transferable between platforms. So if you unlock a particular weapon on PC, you’ll be able to use it on PS5 afterwards, as long as you play with the same EA account.
Release: When will Battlefield 2042 be released anyway?
The release of Battlefield 2042 is scheduled for 19 November 2021 after a short delay, pre-orderers of the Gold and Ultimate Editions can get their hands on it a few days earlier, the start of the preload is not yet known – we expect that you can start downloading around 10 November.
So the beta will probably take place a few weeks before the launch. This doesn’t give the developers much time for major changes, but at least it should be possible to take balancing feedback from the beta into the final game.
