The furniture giant Ikea wants to sue a developer of an unreleased survival game. The reason: It has too many similarities.

The new survival game “The Store is Closed” is currently in development and is supposed to become an “infinite Ikea game” according to its creator Jacob Shaw. However, this seems to be a thorn in the side of the furniture giant and, according to a report from PC Gamer last week, it is threatening to take legal action against the game.

The developer Shaw has received a letter from Ikea’s legal representatives demanding that the game be revised and changed. If Jacob Shaw does not comply with the demands, a lawsuit could be filed. After all, according to the letter, the game “The Store is Closed” seems to have similarities with Ikea’s shops.

The gigantic yellow sign “Styr” on the dark blue outer wall of the building alone is reminiscent of the world-renowned furniture giant. However, according to the letter, the uniforms, products and also the interior design are said to have strong similarities with the Swedish furniture store. Nevertheless, Ikea’s legal representatives do not seem to want to put the game on hold completely.

The Swedish giant is asking the developer to change all details that reference Ikea so that no more links can be drawn to the furniture store. According to Jacob Shaw, the developer will also comply with Ikea’s demand so as not to end up with a lawsuit. So far, the developer plans to change everything coloured yellow and blue to grey and red. In addition, Scandinavian furniture will be removed from the range.
