Bioshock will continue – but development is far from going smoothly, according to a report.
A new Bioshock is coming … hopefully someday. Because if recent reports surrounding the fourth installment of the legendary shooter sequel are to be believed, Cloud Chambers’ project isn’t doing so well.
The fairly young and undescribed studio is currently developing Bioshock 4, which does not involve the original creator of the series Ken Levine. The project has been in the works for a couple of years, but according to a leaker it is stuck in development hell
What’s going wrong with Bioshock 4?
According to the Twitter user with the appropriate name (Oops Leaks) the development of Bioshock 4 is said to have been restarted four times already – most recently in the summer of 2022. This is apparently due to various problems plaguing the game’s production. We have listed the most important points for you in the following:
The following is a list of the problems.
- According to the report, the team behind Bioshock 4 lacks the experience to handle a project of this size. Poor management and a tough development process probably also lead to a high staff turnover – some developers were fired, but some also left voluntarily.
- The script of Bioshock 4 was apparently rewritten several times because they were never satisfied with the quality of it. Apparently it never lived up to the high standards of the franchise.
- Now the game is reportedly being completely rewritten again, while probably only the setting will be kept. According to previously unconfirmed rumours, Bioshock 4 will take place in the Antarctic city of Borealis during the 1960s, and will probably be titled Bioshock Isolation.
- Bioshock 4 is supposed to be released in publisher Take-Two’s fiscal year 2025 – but it is more than questionable whether the targeted release date can actually be met under these circumstances.
The new Bioshock is in development hell.
Despite a complete change in development leadership, the Bioshock series is still haunted by the curse of problematic development. No game details will be described here, and this is likely to be my final report on the next Bioshock. pic.twitter.com/5oppXBsbns

How credible is the source? Of course, it is impossible to say with one hundred percent certainty whether the Oops Leaks report is true. In the past, the Twitter user has repeatedly shared reports that later turned out to be true. However, you should take the potential glimpses behind the scenes of Bioshock 4 with a pinch of salt.
What do you think about the alleged problems in the development of Bioshock 4? What are your hopes and expectations for a new part of the legendary shooter series? Do you think that the success of Infinite and Co. can be continued at all? Let us know in the comments – we’re looking forward to it!
